hi guys

Played yesterday and was hoping to break 100 as last 18 i played i got 126 that was the first 18 i had played.

I normal just play 9 holes and that started at around 62 then averaged about low 50's.

I have been playing just over 2 months now and when i played the other day i manged to get 54 on the front 9 and 45 on the back got 1 birdie and 2 pars well happy first birdie i have got aswell.

Next target will be 90 how long do you guys reckon is a good reachable goal for getting to that target.

Thanks

Well done mate on breaking 100 and congratulations on your first birdie.
As far as breaking 90 is concerned, if you concentrate on taking one shot at a time, you will start to consistently break 100 and on one of those magic days the sub 90 round will happen when you least expect it.
When that happens you will then have to concentrate on taking one shot at a time, you will start to consistently break 90 and on one of those magic days.... you know the rest.

We all want instant results, and it can be frustrating at times, but if we take our time and do the right things, it WILL happen.

Have you ever had a lesson from your pro?

difficult call without seeing your swing.
I would suggest if you can keep the ball straight off the tee then 90 shouldn't take long, however if driving is your weakest part of the game you'll struggle.
If you hit the fairway off the tee then you can take 2 more to the green (par 4's) and bogey every hole for 18 over par. Throw in 3 or 4 pars plus a disaster treble and you'll be round about 88/89 on most courses.
Keep it on the short grass even if that means leaving the driver at home, you'll never score if you're in the rough a lot.

yeah i have had 3 lessons so far and my driving has gone to rubbish recently and it has been my irons of the fairway and rough and also my putting that has saved me.

On my last lesson 3 weeks ago my pro told me my drive swing was to shallow so changed it and now either way dont work very well im going to go down the driving range latter and try a few things.

On the videos i have seen the left arm is not bent and your chin is over your left shoulder this is not what im doing as my left arm bends at the moment.

I will give this ago and see what happens.

Am in a similar boat myself - have so far played 12 full rounds since taking the game up at Easter. Managed to get a 98 on my 8th time out, which was a great feeling (slipped back since though).

The key for me was not counting shots, funny as it seems. I got my playing partner to mark a card for me, and never looked at my score. I made a par 4 on a tricky 18th to get there - had I known I needed to score 5 or less, I doubt I would have managed it!

As said numerous times before, if you keep it on the short grass, you have a great chance - that round was the best I've driven by a mile.

My 1st sub 90 came after 4 months of breaking the 100 and my H/C is now down from 28 >> 22 shot 87 today so as they say well done, just keep up what your doing and it will happen, just dont force it i tried that for a while and my H/C went back up.

Said it before but for the benefit of the relative newbies (welcome one and all btw) my advice is to play every hole on the course as a par 5 (5 x 18 = 90). That way you are taking the pressure off on the par 3's and shorter par 4's and then have a few shots in the bank for longer par 4's and 5's

well after saying that i had a shocker yesterday and shot 62 over 9 holes had a total of 4 balls go in the lake unbelivable started of with 3 pars then 1 bad hole and the rest went to pot.

My main problem at the moment is my alignment and drivers i can get the ball to go straight with my irons but just tend not to be pointing at the target properly.

going to try and get some lessons booked up over the next couple of weeks.

I think your main problem might be too much pressure on your self like most newbie's, trying to break barriers. Atticus is spot on...It WILL come.

Just play your game and worry little about your scores. If you start thinking I need to score x or y here then your not really thinking about the right things, again, play a shot at a time and dont be too aggressive.

Golf is a hard game as a beginner, you need to keep it as simple as possible. Dont think about your swing on the course, just go out and play, let things happen naturally and what you have learnt so far should take you round. Don't beat your self up or get frustrated at making mistakes we ALL do it.

Finally, just enjoy it, good or bad. Stick to your routines and work hard on the practice range, you only get out what you put in, FACT!
