Anyone else watched the series ?

First Epsiode was about the Sparrows

Now I'm onto the second episode about the wonderful BBMF

Great watch - especially the syncro with the Spitfire and Typhoon

Yea, interesting to see how the typhoon pilot was disappointed at only doing a flat performance due to cloud cover, similarly the other guy wanting to fly the Spitfire but couldnt as the wind was 15 knots and up. The experienced pilot took a little pleasure in breaking the bad news to him.

I watched the first 3 in the series but the last clashed with Downton and The Hunt which HID wanted recording so I'll watch it on playback. Good series though, showed them in good and knob mode though

I understood the post and agree that the subject was interesting. I have watched this TV series and enjoyed it. As a pilot myself, the UK does not have a good climate for flying due to too much low cloud, which was the issue affecting the display pilots.

Saw the BBMF one. Excellent programme. Great to see the old planes doing their stuff and hearing the pilots talk about them. Also seeing all the planning involved in the display. Will any aeroplane ever look as perfect as as the Spitfire? And the wonderful workhorse Hurricane, crucial in the BoB but of course it also did sterling work in the Western Desert and other theatres later in the war. Interesting to hear the pilots debating whether they enjoyed being in the Red Arrows or the BBFM most. One really good thing was it focused on the pilots and the 'planes. No silly "look at me" presenters "having a go".

You probably already know this but this was a great help in 1940 as on more than one occasion poor weather kept the Luftwaffe grounded and gave the hard pressed RAF pilots a much needed break .

Was good to see the Sparrow pilots actually being jeolous of the guys in the Spitfires and Hurricane - shame the Lanc was out of order

On one of our captains day - a member of our club used to work for the BBMF and he managed to arrange for the Lanc and Two Spitfires for fly over the golf club on their way to an Airshow - was a wonderful sight

They must have forgotten to film the episode about navy pilots:D

When you have been in a helicopter landing on the back of a small ship it can be scary. Especially when the seas are rough and it is at night. I was only ever a passenger/winchman but it still gets your adrenalin running.

I thought it was ok, the narration ruined it for me but this seems to be an integral part of all documentaries nowadays. I don't need to hear "If he is 1 metre out of place then the whole display is ruined / the plane will crash / everyone will die" (delete as appropriate) over and over again, I appreciate the skills of the pilots and the planning involved not so for overly dramatic commentaries.

I was at a family wedding a few weeks ago and the best man was ex Red Arrows and flies Spitfires etc. He arranged a Spitfire fly over for the wedding and we all missed it because the bride was late and the service was still going on!
