The threads about The Masters have whetted my appetite about the imminent start of both club and major golf season.

However this is tinged by the prospect of watching Gary Lineker, a guy who is the blandest most boring commentator ever to discuss our beautiful game. It is akin to Faldo doing the world cup, it would never happen. So why does the BBC think it is acceptable to stick a non golfer/ journalist who is as dull as dish water. If he was a crisp flavour it would befinitely be PLAIN !!!!!!
I would love to see Steve Ryder back as he was the back bone or Masters coverage.

What do you think?

I agree, if this vote goes the way I think it will is there a way it can be forwarded to the BBC to let them know what golfers want.I usually mute the tv when he is on.

Where have all the talented TV presenters gone. Hands up who can remember Harry Carpenter presenting Sportsnight late on wednesday evening? Where are the modern day Des Lynam and Steve Ryder.

Personally I'd rather have someone like Gabby Logan present it. Equally as knowledgable about golf as Jug Ears Lineker but much better on the eye.

As a long punt even Suzi Perry would be preferable. Say what you like about satellite tv golf coverage but Sky has Di Stewart (Jonny Wilkinson what were you thinking getting shot?) and Setanta has Sarah Stirk. Both could join me for a game anytime.

It is an easy way out for TV companies to employ people who's only claim to fame is their dad was famous and they are good looking. Do you think the likes of Kirsty Gallagher, Kelly Dalglish and others would be on our telly's if they didn't have famous fathers? Not a chance. I would rather see someone who has spent time as a sports/golfing journalist come on and do it. FFS Peter Alliss is their best host and he is a sweaty old man (who I think is amazing).

Forget celebrity hosts and give us someone with some credablilty within the game !!!

Did anyone see those world sport awards the other night hosted by Steve Ryder and Cuba Gooding Jnr?

Steve was amazing, a natural, while Cuba read terribly from the auto-cue!

I cant stand lop eared lineker with his dreary voice in fact i passionately hate it, If there is any magic lost at the masters its in the studio when lineker starts his waffle.

If not Steve I would rather have Hazel Irving than ole jug ears I think he is a condescending git.

Don't see the logic in having someone who plyed their career playing football commenting on golf,as someone said you would't get faldo doing the world cup, why not get Allis to do what Lineker does and have Torrance, Brown and a n other at the table commentating,i wonder what goes through the mind of the pro's when being questioned after a round by somone who was a footballer,

I would even prefer Alan Hanson to that useless clueless prat that is liniker, in fact I would rather have my teeth drilled without anesthetic that listen to his monotone voice.

Hanson is intelligent and very knowledgeable and stimulates debate.

Arthur Montford anybody???????

I quite like GL. Especially when he talks to spanish players!! Steve Ryder was the man for me.....he and Augusta seem to live happily together in a little birdhouse in my soul.

Mark Lawrensen could be the man of the murmunt....

I went to watch the Solheim years ago, spotted a guy I recognised and waved, he politley waved back. My mate said "Dave, you flamin' arse why are you waving at Ken Brown?"

Different angle.

Golf is a game predominately played by men, middle-aged and older generally. They'll watch the golf on telly regardless of who's presenting.

However in todays commercial world of big business and money, sponsors need to get their message across to as many people as possible. I get the impression that Gary Lineker is becoming the replacement for Nigel Havers for women of a certain age, therefore more women are likely to watch the golf. Gary is also an ex international footballer, so you might get some footie types watching, 'cause golf can't be that bad if Garys involved!

It's just about likeability, not necessarily your ability or previous major wins etc.

For me it's not about the headline presenters but the commentators. Peter Allis for golf, Murray Walker for F1 etc.

Can I make a plea for Jodie Kidd?

How about Archie Macpherson for the golf? Think how many times he would get to say "Whoooofffff!".

Seriously.....can we get back to Kirsty Gallacher. Mmmmmmmm.

Aw naw, you've got me thinking about Di Stewart again, now. Hankies!

Oh, the question. Ryder...good guy. Lineker...w**k.
