I've got no particular point to make. But just thought I'd give the same people the opportunity to make the same points over and over again in the 3rd thread on Brexit. ;)

At least it's been a month well spent and we have a much clearer vision of what post-brexit Britain will look like.

I hear some bloke called Negan will be running things....

Whole exercise seems a little like creating a child - named Brexit of course!

Conceived end of June 2016!
To actually be 'born' end of March 2017 - 9 months later!

Loads of questions about finances and relationships (and whether it can/should be aborted!) since!

Other than being informed that Art50 is end March; Sturgeon and other devolved luminaries have had a cup of tea and a slice of fruit cake at #10; and Nissan have decided to not close their most efficient car plant (in Europe?) - has anything of any note happened in the last 4 months that takes us anywhere closer to exiting?

Heard Prof Patrick Mimford on LBC this evening (economic advisor to Margaret Thatcher) saying what the gov should do re Brexit. His main points (if I recall correctly) were

> Invoke Art50 asap as reaching an agreement with the EU is going to be really difficult.
> Permit unfettered access to the UK for skilled workers from EU and beyond
> Strict control over unskilled labour coming into UK
> No tariffs on imports from the EU regardless of whether or not the EU impose tariffs on UK exports to the EU
> Accept no EU regulations; develop our own
> Commit to exporters that their exports to the EU will not suffer (so whatever deal/agreement Nissan has)
> Brexit may be difficult in the short term (2-3yrs) but will be successful in the long term

As I live in Worcestershire I dont tend to listen to LBC Radio so didn't hear what he said. I have tried to google it but found nothing.

I was very interested in what he said during the EU referendum campaign where he was very clear that the UK would be better off leaving the EU and that there were better business opportunities in the rest of the World.

If I accept your recollections of the program are correct then I would say

Agree with article 50 being invoked quickly.
Agree with allowing skilled Labour and restricting unskilled into the country
Not convinced about unilateral withdraw of tariffs but sounds interesting
Happy about developing our own regulations
Agree to support our exporters
Agree that Brexit will have a bumpy road to go down in the short term and that it will be a success after the initial settling down period.

A quick look at the judgement appears to show that it's pretty appeal proof.. The Governments case fell at the first hurdle, before even the Claimants cases were heard.. Will be interesting to see how the appeal progresses..

The ruling is likely to affect the 'speed' with which A50 can legally be invoked!

Subject to Appeal, getting approval from Parliament could well delay the invocation of A50 from 'before end of March 2017'! And even that might not be considered 'quickly' anyway!
So absolutely relevant imo!

Note that he was saying no control on skilled labour.

The 'no tariffs' was interesting as his view was that tariffs that the EU imposes only go to increasing the cost of our products to EU consumers, likewise any that we'd impose on EU products. So we don't impose tariffs on imports from the EU and hence cost of these to UK consumers does not go up.

I listened to LBC in the lead up to the referendum and continue to listen, you try it. Some of the utter and complete ignorance of what Leave actually means/meant and more to the point why they voted Leave is jaw-dropping. Try listening to Sheila Fogerty at the moment (or catch up later) - quite staggering views on the role of the judiciary and it's place in our democracy; and on the role and duty of our MPs being expressed.

Note that I am not saying that these folk are stupid, or indeed ignorant in general, but on Leave and this decision many are just very, very confused and misinformed.

It's not that many, is it? and can you make a generalistaion on some people who ring into a radio station! I have already made my point on another thread regarding comments that people who voted leave are uneducated.
