How many of you guys are conscious of your breathing when swinging a club?
I ask because having learnt some breathing techniques whilst doing martial arts over the years I have learnt that breathing properly will help to generate power.
I have taken this onto the golf course and it seems to help me, it is also my main swing thought too which is great for not letting my head get too full of complicated swing thoughts!
Any views?

Haha fair play, guess I walked into that one!
Playing off 3 I suppose it probably does just happen naturally for you, lucky git! ;)
seriously tho I do think breathing "properly" can be very beneficially to anyones golf game!
I may be wrong but I'd rather have good breathing control as my main swing thought than a lot of the other complicated things that get posted on here!
Plus it helps you to relax and we all know that you play your best golf when you are relaxed.

It is a bit strange at first focusing on something that comes as naturally as breathing. A lot of the time you feel short of breath becuase you are not used to thinking about it. I do think you are right although I look at it from another angle. Rather than breathing properly generating power I would see it as holding your breath when tence creats tension and looses power along with timing and tempo and rythm etc.

I'm sure there is something it what you you're saying but it's not something I think about unless I'm standing over an important shot and I need to calm down. Apart from that, I have no idea what good breathing techniques are, sorry

Yes you are right in that holding your breath will make you tense and therefore lose power, but if you breath properly as opposed to just breathing and not holding your breath you will definitely generate more power.
Breath in deep on back swing and exhale and really push the air out when you swing through and release the club.
I am by no means an expert in this field but have first hand experience of how breathing "properly" can produce almost astounding results when it comes to generating power in martial arts, surely it can work for golf!

no need to be sorry mate, maybe look a few up? Might be the extra help that gets you to single figures?

Best Matchplay Gamesmanship going that one...

Do you breath in on your backswing or out on your downswing?

Watch'em crumble as they think about it.... :D :D :D :D

I have to admit I'm intrigued, maybe I will if I get a minute

Take more than a minute my friend, ignorance is the key to failure!
