Was down at the range this aft what with all the screaming kids and yobs talking on moblies not a very happy time.
I started thinking is how you breath when you start your backswing important, I tend to have 2 deep breaths exhale to mid point then start my swing and breath in again when I watch the flight of the ball.
Any opinions?

I tried breathing in as I took my address position and let it out just prior to pulling the trigger for a while. It seemed to work but then I got so fixated on my breathing everything else went to pot. At least I was in a state of calm as my new Titleist headed for the deep stuff!!

Your range sounds like a joy to be at for some serious practice. We have one like that (unfortunately it is only 5 minutes from my house and so I'd use it all the time if I was allowed to focus on my own game). Its hard to concentrate when some 18 stone neanderthal swilling Stella steps out of the bay next to you to go and pick a ball up he had topped 2 foot outside the bay.

The one I use is normally much better. It still has kids on there and the odd couple of chavs but they have a range warden and so any naughties is normally stamped out quickly. It seems to attract a better standard of player i.e. those there because they want to improve not just smash a bucket of balls.

I'd stick with the breathing if it helps you. Might be a good one to try on the course as well

This range is just by the football stadium and is only 5 mins from town so I drop HID off for some retail therepy and go hit some balls .
As far as the breathing it was as you try and block the rest of the noise it does become secondary to hear this strange gasp as you follow through and wonder do I do that on the course and do my opponants notice.
When I did Karate just before any move you were trained to let your mind go blank and just allow instinct to take over it is the same when I address the ball all thoughts go and I just focus on the ball all the rest becomes a blur until you are standing watching the flight as it curves into the distance.

Just keep ya mouth open when playing your shot. You actually should exhale before you start your swing and all the way through it. This way, the muscles shouldnt tense up. I used to shut my mouth and i found i was holding my breath whilst swingin. Dont think about it to much though!

Yeah i know, thats why i said try not think about it, if ya just keep ya mouth open the rest should follow!

Some pro once told me to hum as I started my backswing I told him Fo.
That is what I found if you start to exhale and then start your backswing it does work.
Was just that if I made the same noise on the course where it is quiet I sound like a hippo coming up for air.

Just been reading Zen Golf, that supports the full exhale and the hum. It also suggests doing the full inhale/exhale before you address the ball - all aimed at de-stressing.
I've tried the hum; the theory is that you can't maintain a hum throughout your swing if you're stressed - it does work.

I have to say that as a former shooting instructor, there is no such thing as a 'mid-point', at least not a consistent one. The only consistent point in your breathing cycle is the dwell (pause) between breathing out and breathing in for a normal, unstressed, breath. For target shooting you merely extend that pause.

must admit i can not say how i breath when taking a shot.

Also i have seen loads of training vids and never seen one say anything about how to breath.

Whatch this video

The perfect golf swing

Viscount, Correct. Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, pause, squeeze trigger, follow through, inhale, exhale. Reapeat.
