afternoon all,

just wondering whether anyone has had the misfortune to break their wrist and if so, how long it kept you out the game.

my old man managed to break both of his yesterday and is convinced his golfing days are over, was hoping to cheer him up with some tales of full recoveries and "swing better than before".

Did my wrist back in 84, 4 breaks in it, had a pin put in to help heal then removed 4 months later.

Back playing within a year, did take it very easy for the first 6-8 rounds but soon got back to my full swing.

It did wonders for my short game as to start with all I did was to chip and putt.

Depends on the nature of the break(s).

Pretty sure he's got more important things to worry about than Golf for the next 4-6 weks! Organising food in and waste out for a start! Cleaning teeth and shaving can be an issue too, dependent on how long the cast is.

Plenty of short game practice once he's back.

Contact the club and suspend membership/handicap could save some cash also.

all this and add in age......you really don't want to put any loading on wrists for a considerable period; give them every chance to heal as well as they can or, basically, they will never heal.

I broke my wrist twice in one year about 5 yr back,I didn't play golf for quite a while & when I did start playing again it took me quite a while to forget about it. Spoke to the Pro at the range when I did start back & he said it looked like I was trying to protect my wrist with the way I was swinging.
Best wishes to ya old man

just spoke to him, first day of a months holiday in spain, not going to be much of a holiday for my poor mum !

both arms in plaster upto his elbows, can't hold a knife/fork/cup or carry out the obvious functions un-aided.

still at least the weathers nice !

My 5yr old daughter is in the same boat with double wrists. She doesn't golf though... Amazing what she can actually do though! Hope your old mans recovery goes well!

A lad on our road broke both his arms! He was playing down the park when his mum called him in and he jumped over the railings they had put up about 2 months before for the kids "safety". As he jumped over he slipped and his arms got caught between the bars but his body carried on travelling. He spent 6 weeks in plaster up to his arm pits and our middle daughter was requested by him to feed him every night.
Hope he recovers well and just follow the doctors orders will have him playing quicker than anything.
