I've just completed my 3rd round of the season and 6 since I started taking up the game again.

I hit 99, my first ever sub 100 round. Included 3 pars and I definitely left some shots on the course too.

It was a par 69 and my handicap is 28, so it was a net 71 +2, my handicap is still 28, do I need to get under par really to start seeing an improvement in my handicap?

To see any reduction in hc you need to know what CSS would have been that day,

For example our course is par 72, but most comps the CSS is 70, this means we effectively have to shoot net -3 to see any cut at all.

Working out that par is 69, I would expect CSS to be around 67 on average days with normal conditions,

With that in mind you need to be aiming for net 66 or below for reduction, ie gross 94

Regardless though, I am more than happy with my performance.

3 pars in there too. Some pretty awesome seve-esque saves from the trees too. Even getting my range in now with my club selection and more often than not I selected the right club, just the direction was off now and again.

Ok well only been playing properly for 6 rounds, so I'm happy with using the SSS for now. When I settle down in a house though, I'm kind of floating around following a divorce, I'll more than likely settle into a club, and see where that takes me.

At the end of the day forgetting the handicap issue you've broken a milestone. Get yourself sorted, join a club, get an official handicap and then enjoy getting it down. As for today, nice shooting

Thanks very much, Definitely felt good. As a sidenote I left my Driver in the bag as I was hitting so well with my 3 Wood.

Isn't there normally someone comes on right about now to say "ha, I never realised breaking 100 was an achievement because I've always just been awesome"?

Great effort with the score. I remember my first sub100 round. Keep it going, and hope life settles down for you. You'll be threatening 90 before you know it.
