It must be too hot today. My brain melted after 15 holes.

There I was, standing +2 gross and playing well, when out of nowhere I finished double bogey 6, double bogey 5, quadruple bogey 7 :eek:oo:

To be honest, the 6 I made on 16 was a great save, after taking an unplayable when I hoiked my 2nd a long way left into serious trouble and never seeing the fairway between tee and hole. The 5 up 17 was a bit unlucky but the 18th...

It's a 230 yard par 3, slightly uphill, OOB all the way up the right. Hit my first ball tight to the right hand side and wasn't sure if it had stayed in play. The provisional, naturally, was a great shot and ended up on the green. So like a moron, I went to look for my first ball, found it, had to take another unplayable, as it was in a ditch and then play a very difficult pitch shot from a horrible lie. Hit it too hard, went all the way through the green and then I fluffed a chip back. Another chip, 2 putts and it was a 7. Ended up with a 79, for net 69 and joint 3rd place at the halfway stage. Also, the 7 only counts as 5 for h/c purposes, so I've had a nice little 0.6 cut, but it could have been so much better.

I suppose we're never happy, though.

There's no stopping you at the moment!

I was expecting tales of woe from the title but another good round, even with the brain melt, single figures is only another round of the same away.

Great play.

Oh, I don't know about that, I shot 89 last week and played like a man who'd only just been introduced to his arms. I only talk about the good ones ;)

But thanks - as you say, single figs is within touching distance. More of the same tomorrow will be fine.

Look on the bright side I had an 11 down our 16th today including 4 penalty shots and a sore face!

Poo happens!

Total game of two halves for me today. Played with a couple of mates who are generally better than me but don't belong to a club or have handicaps, so we decided as it was a 3 ball to play scratch stableford. I scored 11 on the way out, and was comfortably in front at the turn, but then it all fell apart. Don't know why or how, I just couldn't hit it. Ended up only scoring another 2 points on the way back in.
Oh well, there's always tomorrow...

That really does need expanding on

Quite easy really!

Drove into a fairway bunker plugged under the face, can hardly get a stance never mind a swing. The ball goes into the face and come back hitting my foot, two shot penalty, now playing 5 in the bunker I decided to just go for it and smack a 7 iron into the lip of the bunker and it came straight back and hit me on the left cheek resulting in another two shot penalty and a sore face!

:sbox:

Duff it out in 8, pitch on in 9, two putts equal an easy 11!

Being wise, in an armchair, after the event of course, but if your bunker shot was so nearly impossible, why not a penalty drop for an unplayable ball - playing 3 out the bunker?

Hindsight is a great thing but I was already goosed and had a run of unbelievable bad luck. I was out in +3 and came home in 52!!! Played the back 9 like one of Bombers weekend warriors and to be fair with that back nine I deserve to be banished from a Saturday medal.

Just a bad day where everything that could have gone wrong did from the 8th onwards!

nothing compared to the 14 yours truly managed to save on our par 3 12th hole in Ikoyi Club on Wednesday last week.
two OB tee shots, followed by a duffed third tee, which i sliced straight into a hollow at the base of the boundary wall to the right.
dropped for 6 , 7th shot over the green somehow curved round a tree and came to rest on the 13th fairway.
no problem, aside from a group of very dense leafy trees to go over, forty metres to the green, too thick to go through.
64 degree wedge got me over the trees, but not quite on the green, just a foot to the green on the apron.
bladed 9 over the green, on to the 12th fairway.
when i managed to focus through the red mist that appeared out of nowhere, 10 into the deep, man size green-side bunker.
11, 12, went up the side of the bunker and rolled back in.
13 got me on the green.
hit, and i mean hit, a putt without even looking at the cup, travelled 30something feet, and dropped. so, i do not exaggerate when i say i saved i4.

my three companions, being men of great discernment, not to say wisdom, said not a word for the rest of the round.

one of them just said to me yesterday that he had never, in his life, seen a person's eyes turn bright red until that fateful wednesday.

Rule changed in 2008. It's now only a one shot penalty if your ball hits you. Rule 19-2

So cheer up, you really only scored 9.

Still sounds painful though. :(

Out again today and got to 16 +4 gross this time, still well under h/c.

I only went and did it again - finished 7,5,5 this time to end up with 80, bang on h/c.

In the last 2 days, I've played the first 15 holes in a combined +6 gross. I've played the last 3 in a combined +15.

This game can be soul-destroying.

Genuinely didn't know that! Well I unofficially shot a wonderful 89! Still horse manure. Wish I'd signed for a lower score and I could have DQ'd myself.

I think am having similar although not Identical problems here. Must be something to do with just needing this 1 more good round to break into single figures. I went out on Sat, was still a tad rough right enough but none the less and just couldn't string two decent shots together. Walked off 4 hours later having taking 88 blows. A mere 20 over par....
