Shame they removed it from the Olympics as we were dominate in it - great gold for the pair

Assume they were first/second? Not seen any of it but have to agree they are two of our best ever.
team game Martin, they ride for points over 200 laps ,there is a sprint every 20 laps ,but you can get a lap up on the peleton ,and six teams did ,
it was spellbinding tv .and the result was always in doubt until our boys got a lap up on the field in the last forty laps .,it took them 20 plus laps to get it .

Fair enough. Why did they get rid of it from the Olympics. Sounds a tough old event

Seems lame when you consider how many swimming events (including heats there are).
Don't get me started ;-) Especially when in swimming most events won by the same guys. At least Bold doesn't win anything over 400m in athletics and there is a spread of the medals.

And while we are on it, gymnastics as well. And why is there boxing or weight lifting based on weight classes? There isn't any divide in basketball for long and short people.

Would it make such a difference to add one more cycle race to the list? I can't see the problem. Is it the only event they've got rid of in olympic track cycling and if so, why do they still have it in the world champs?

Didn't see it, its a once in 4 years viewing thing for me at Olympics, bit too specialist a sport for me, no poor countries can take part it seems and some of the events like the one with the moped seem ludicrous. Did enjoy Hoy winning in London however when he looked like losing, sprints are exciting, time trials aren't.
Respect what Cav has done in TdF, Wiggins I'm not sure about, seems like a bighead....imo

so Cav in the tdf you respect ,but he hasnt won it ,yet Wiggy you dont ,has won it.

If you had watched the madison you would have definitely got a bit excited by it ,it was totally enthralling .
hark at me and i dont even own a pushbike.lol.

General consensus is Froome could have beaten Wiggins in TdF in 2012 but had to follow team orders, hate when sport does that. Cavendish cant win TdF but he wins (or used to win) stages in exciting fashion and shows his emotions, good and bad which I respect, Wiggins just likes to think he's too cool for school and can win whenever he wants, Froome's better but he's not 'a Mod on a bike' or 'cool Britannia' etc, Wiggins seems too cocky and there's something about him I don't like............just my view.

I absolutely love sport and all kinds of sport.
Watching these 2 legends compete as if they were just starting their careers not coming towards the end was fantastic.
As Brits and clean Brits as well they are legends in my eyes.
Great entertainment and the fans were in great voice.
All in all a fantastic event for British cycling.

We went to the velodrome on Friday for the morning session and it was brilliant and fascinating to see it up close. I love watching road cycling and the track when it's Olympics - to get a feel for how fast they are, how steep the track banking is, the tactics, the crazy long warm up and cool downs etc...great fun!

Too many track cycle events and they had to get rid of some to make medals available for other events, of example golf.

They were removed from the schedule when they increased the amount of womens races, why they couldnt just increase the womens and leave the mens alone I dont understand

Froome left them on one climb. He was about 2 mins down on him at that time and finished over 3 mins down. The main part of "Froome is better" came about due to his Mrs ranting on twitter. Don't forget though that it's the nature of the TdF. Each team has a point man and also a main lead out man, you simply can not run a team without setting team orders otherwise you'll fail with all the riders trying to one up members of their own team.

Plus in that year, Brad was simply better. Nowadays that's changed.

Wiggins is once of the nicest blokes you could meet whereas (now I've only heard this from others who have met him) Froome is a right bell end.

Looks like I've perhaps got them wrong then from what you've heard, never met either so can only go on perception and at Olympics 2012 I found Wiggins a bit cocksure, like winning was so easy - didn't warm to him. Froome 'seems' more humble.
Froome has the suspicions of PEDS now which will never leave him, innocent or not, Wiggins didn't get that accusation, the sport is tainted like athletics thanks to Armstrong/Pantani etc etc.

lol...cycling has be tainted since way back..long before Armstrong and Pantani.
I respect what Wiggins has done, but can't help but feel he's using his "history" to push for the Olympics next time.
