Boxing/UFC 2018-25

Fury got what he deserved. He was having success with shots to the body and bringing the uppercut into play (I wonder if Dubois’ performance steered him to this). Then just stopped doing it. Usyk’s ability to stay in the pocket and control the ring against a much bigger man impressed me. He won by 4-5 rounds in the end. The rematch will be a similar affair unless Fury is much more disciplined and with a higher and more meaningful output.

I hope he retires now. He has become a clown with his last 2 fights. History doesn't bring you success in the present, but sadly he thinks he can just turn up and walk away the winner.

Decent fight between two very tough fighters.

Fury was a bit arrogant, managed the fight badly and paid the price, he failed to hit home his advantage when he was on top after a slow start. Usyk came back into it and deserved the win. Huge credit to Fury for withstanding a battering and coming back to take it the distance.

Rematch will be a cracker but I'd like to see Fury v AJ at Wembley/Vegas before it's too late. These fights in Saudi are non events really and have the atmosphere of a tesitmonial!

Zhang has probably retired Wilder with that KO. Wilder is no longer relevant - but may prefer to keep taking the Saudi money.

Good win and performance by Dubois, handing Hrgovic his first defeat. Two big wins for Dubois after his defeat to Usyk. Just not sure he’s top tier (despite many thinking he was robbed against Usyk).

Makhachev wins again. Didn’t have it all his own way against Poirier, but he’s a different animal on the ground. Potentially a move to welterweight beckons.

I've followed boxing since I was a small boy, and have personally attended several major fights in Boston, New York, Miami, and Las Vegas over the years.

Until recently, boxing in the US was televised on premium cable networks HBO and Showtime.
Even the pay-per-view fights were cablecast on those channels a week late at no extra cost.
One might want to see some of them live at one hundred bucks per pop,
but most of them, we'd see a week late, no charge above the basic subscription fee.

Now, boxing is no longer on premium cable. It's scattered across multiple streaming services, and for the first time since I was in elementary school,
I've completely lost track of it.

Those of us old enough to remember the world before it went completely pear-shaped are living in somebody else's world now.

Wilder was imho the most protected champion in boxing for a long, long time. I was only surprised it took Zhang until round 5 to get him out of there, I had bet Zhang to win in the first 4 rounds.

Dubois put in a performance that Holyfield would have been proud of. It's been a long time since I've seen someone land that many headbutts in a fight. He's still improving, has a good chin and can punch. I wouldn't be surprised if he manages to get a belt at some point.

You're right on Wilder lasting as long as he did, the weight difference was crazy for a heavyweight fight.

UFC Manchester this week & a solid card.
Shame they’ve screwed us with the fight time.
Decent card, but I won’t be watching live. Imagine going to the event - madness! Hoping Edwards and Aspinall win as it sets up some decent fights for both. I also wouldn’t mind if Pimblett could muster a win. He’s grown on me ever so slightly after the Ferguson fight - but wouldn’t be mega upset if he got starched.

I fancy both Edward’s & Aspinall to get the wins.
Paddy v Green is a hard one to call, personally I hope paddy gets smoked.
Seen a few posts on twitter trying to get people in the crowd to sing the national anthem when Paddy walks out 😂

Just watching Chisora v Joyce. Joyce choosing to defend punches with his face is really concerning. Chisora is not a massive puncher, but it’s making me uncomfortable. You’ve got to fear for his health in the future - regardless of the result here.

Not sure how I missed this and didn't know it was this weekend!

Looking at the reports it backs up what you wrote. Both taking too many punches and both ought to get out now.

Yep, agreed. Chisora wants two more to make it 50 professional fights. Hope he gets out with all his faculties. To be fair to him, his resume is high level and he’s normally very competitive. Joyce though is like some end of level baddie from a 90’s Megadrive game. Just plods forward whilst swinging, more than happy to ship two or three to land one. He was already slow and is looking more slow/bumbling since his defeats to Zhang.

Had chance to catch up with UFC 304. Good card. Edwards was not at the races and deserved to get beat. Muhammad executed his game plan almost perfectly.

Great performance again from Aspinall. He is so quick and powerful. It will be interesting to see what they do with him now. Jones doesn’t seem to fancy it.

Pimblett produced as well, fair play to him. Green was apparently a step up in competition and didn’t really lay a glove on him. Superb transition and then finish. Possibly that Moicano fight happens now.
