This is actually a bit of an experiment.

My last couple of drivers have both been 9 degree and I had an interesting chat with a club pro about optimum launch conditions and he reckons around the 12 degree mark is perfect. He also went on to say that some Tour players, including Vijay Singh have been using high lofted drivers.

If it all goes belly up it could turn out to be a very expensive experiment.

I have a 909D2, but with 8.5 degrees, and a Matrix ozik stiff shaft. It goes plenty high enough.

I don't see how your pro can say 12 degrees is about right for optimum launch. It clearly isn't for me, and must depend on the shaft, and the golf swing, which is different for every one.

Good luck with it though. They are nice drivers.

I don't have any problem getting height with my 9 degree driver.I am just not happy with my accuracy.I feel I miss far to many fairways. The main reason I am changing to a higher loft is to get more accuracy.

Been hitting this club for the last 3 days now.Very interesting.

I think I was too cautious by getting the 11.5 degree model.I am hitting it a bit too high.I think 10.5 would have been perfect...........................

but in saying that, it is down the middle every time and is only loosing a wee bit of distance.

To counteract the high loft I am using a very low tee, just slightly higher than a 3 wood and I am able to swing as though I am trying to knock the spots off the ball.

Very happy so far.

Teeing it low will make you hit down into the ball somewhat, generally imparting more spin and making the ball go higher but loaded with spin. You might have a tendancy to slice it a bit too as you'll probably be opening the clubface through impact trying to get it airborn.

If you tee it up normally and swing through letting the club do it's thing then it will go further as it will have slightly less spin, just try not to lift the ball into the air.

The D2 has too much spin for my personal swing but it's a good club from what I've seen for a mid handicapper as you'll get good length and reasonable accuracy.

Higher flight + less spin = most length.

hope this helps....
