Hi All,

Found some clubs on fleabay in Australia. Have a friend living over there who will happily forward them on in the post.

Just curious if anyone has bought from the States or Australia to save money and if so how has it worked out.

Thanks

Bought from States several times at first got away with customs charges but last couple of packages got rumbled and with costs of import duty and parcel force collection charge worked out virtually the same as buying over here.

Always dubious about e-bay at the best of times for golf clubs and I can imagine were they to be iffy the hassle to get things sorted would be a pain. Still, if you are confident they are kosher then go for it.

How much money can you possibly save to make it a good enough deal? We all see things differently but I wouldn't take the gamble, having it in your hands for real is good.

If your shipping here account for

+6% duty
+£13.00 clearance charge (this may have now gone up)
+20% VAT

The old "gift" loop hole rarely works now......

and to add to that, if you get caught, you still have to pay those charges but your goods are seized so you get nothing!

Cheers mate,
The question is about a set of clubs advertised in Australia for £100 and over here are more than £500. Have a friend in Oz who was going to get them and then bring them with him next time he is in the UK.

Looking at it, I think it is to good to be true, but at £100...............

Was curious if golf clubs were actually that cheap in other countries

Its that old saying, 'if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is'.

At £100 he could bring them with him, your more than likely would get your money back selling them over here if you then didn't like or get on with them, unless their snides of courses!

Bought loads from overseas. As others have said, you will be charged on the value of goods and shipping.

Parcelfarce is painfully slow and unreliable, and anything coming in from USPS or Australia Post will go to Parcelfarce. UPS/FedEx et al are much faster and more reliable, although more expensive.

Sounds like this item is either a bargain or a fake. Decide which based on the reliability of the seller. If you don't know they are relabel, assume they are not.

For that price difference I would be questioning the authenticity of the clubs/website?

an old friend (sadly no longer with us) was high up in a local glass company and had to travel to the states and japan a few times a year, being a keen golfer he would take his clubs or more like a crap set from the local second hand shop, when he arrived in the states these would be ditched and the latest gear bought for a fraction of what they would be over here,he did this for years and sold the clubs when he got back home, the opposite for japan he would take extra drivers over as the cost over there was astronomical.

I bought mine new in Canada many years ago, played with them for 2 weeks , then brought them back on my flight.
My Canadian friend who worked in the local tax office filled in all the paperwork , and I got all the taxes refunded a few weeks later.
