Just had the most frustrating of rounds. Consistently off of 28 but have managed to break 100 on the odd occasion recently. Started today with a poor drive, then it all clicked for me. 42 at the turn. Never been below 50 as I always improve. Average 47 on the back nine. So what do I do? I hit 52! Have I bottled it, or is it just a case of being a high handicapper who just had a hot streak? 94 is still my best score so should just be happy I guess.......

Papas,

I've was trying to get my scores down from the high 90's from when I started back up in June. I've put the time in on the range and the course for sure but one thing I haven't done is tot up my scores as I go along, even after 9.

In doing so I've put no pressure on myself whatsoever and have simply played the game and each shot on its own merits. Even when I know I've had a good run of holes, I haven't once looked above at my scores or below to look at the remaining holes on the card.

It's helped me, definitely.

Bottled it probably isn't the correct assessment for yourself, but maybe trying too hard, or putting too much pressure on yourself, is?

Good luck, you shall overcome!

I hadn't checked the scored card. Just summarising after the round. Knew a score was on but didn't know what exactly. To be fair, my friends were having mares losing balls etc and did have to rush the last 5 holes. Can picture 3 rushed putts, and taking a 3 wood pushing my luck on a par 5 chasing a score. In the cold light if day I'm happy with the score. Just frustrated!!

Course management is the key my friend! Turn those disasters into nothing worse than doubles and your scores will tumble

Ah sorry, with you being approximate with your average score coming home I wrongly assumed that you had targeted you're back 9 to be 47 or below.

As much as it does annoy, the message would still be the same, don't go out every round concentrating on breaking the ton. You've hit 94 so know you can do it, just play each shot as it comes. I hope I don't come across in a patronising way as I don't mean too. I am no expert at all but I always do say 'free your mind'. I'll no doubt struggle myself with that when I'm going for my handicap but not targeting anything at all has helped me no end.

Only hit 1 treble, I think the its only a double got in my head and I started playing for them. Almost trying to protect the score. Hey ho. Back out tomorrow so we will see....
