Just in from the June medal at home club Ballater. Got drawn first at 8 in a 2 ball on a cracking morning.

Anyway hit the ball really well and found myself -2 after 3 holes....hmmm good start, birdied 7th to go -3, birdied 11 to go -4. We're in totally unchartered waters by this stage and ridiculous notions of shooting 4 under were seeping into my thoughts despite me fighting it and trying to stay in the present.

Anyway you know what's coming next! :(
.
Hit a decent drive down 12 but in the rough right, thought I'd an ok lie but turned one over badly and ended up with a DB 6 so back to -2. Never mind still good. Good par on 13, missed a 3 footer for birdie on 14 which I was very disappointed with (downhill left to righter so not a gimme). Blocked t-shot on 15 well right and this is where I was really stupid and decided to try a Seve-style big cut with a 6 iron from the rough. It went straight left and lost. Ran up a triple bogey 7 to go back to +1. Parred in 16,17,18 for a one over par 71.

-4 for 16 holes and +5 for 2 holes :D

My dilemma now is how do I feel about the game. If I'd been offered a 71 before I started I'd have grabbed it in a second. However being -4 with 7 holes left I really thought I could hang on for a sub par round. The 7 could so so easily have been a 5 if I'd just doen my usual "take your medicine" and chip out. Got ahead of myself and was rueing the missed putt on 14. Really annoyed at myself for not thinking. Don't think I'll find myself at -4 any time soon again

Big plus is I'm back to 4 handicap even if the CSS comes down later today so that's real progress being off 6 about a month ago. I get one shot off on the adjusted scoring for the 7 at 15th. Should get a couple of quid on the medal and twos sweep as well if I'm lucky.

Can't help but feel like I bottled it big style though. :(

Golf.......drives you bloomin' mental doesn't it!

Well done. Getting to 4-under through 11 holes certainly feels a lot better than getting there at 4-over! Try and enjoy it. :)

As you say... you'd have taken a 71 at the start , so you've achieved something today.

Putting the double and triple bogies to one side... there's NO EXCUSE for not coming in with a birdie, birdie finish!! :) <wink> hehe

Well played today.

This does not relate to the post, sorry, however the other month you mentioned a site Where I could buy Ian Poulter's clthing. May I trouble you to repeat the site. Cheers

Well done m8, great scoring for 11 holes, unfortunate end to what would have been a great round.

Least you know you can do it.

Well done again.

Andy

Top man. I guess the positive way of looking at it is you got into the position in the first place so nowt wrong with your game. I think in hindsight after the double you probably chased after your score a bit and the Seve recovery was down to nothing more than poor thinking.

I was in a similar (never going to be -4 anywhere soon) where I was +4 gross after 12 and then came in 6, 6, 6 (double, triple, single bogey) to shoot a level par round and end up 4th and just out of the money.

Like you would I have taken the score before I started. Definitely especially as my ball striking was actually pretty poor but I chipped an putted well.

I would look at it as a missed opportunity but that you have got the rewards for you recent practice and playing and treat it as a good thing

No question.

It's a good score. A definate WP is in order.

You know full well that as soon as you start to think about a good score the golfing gods will come down on you like a ton of bricks.

You didn't even play two bad holes - it was two bad shots, and you're allowed that ffs.

Just get out there and practise the deliberate slice before next month.

PS you didn't make the mistake of trying a shot on the course you haven't been practising beforehand, have you :(

this thread makes me and my golf feel very inadequate... especially after being taught a lesson or two by a 13 year old at the weekend!

Golf is not a game where you can hang on you have to keep doing and trusting the things that got you in the good position.
A score is only a score when you sign for it

Wel said, I struggle with this I get i a good position after 9 or so then bottle it. I stop getting through the ball it's like I try guiding the ball to the hole instead of trusting my swing.
I shot a 71-5-66 (par 68) on sunday but I was 2 under gross after 8 holes and I lipped out for birdie on 4 of the other holes on the front 9. Then I pulled a wedge way left on 9 and made bogey. Duffed a chip on 11 and made double which was down to indecision, made a bogey from 130 out on 16 trying to guide the ball to the hole and on 18 I hit a poor drive where I couldn't get anywhere near the green.
On a plus note I won my division but I should've finished the round off a lot better than I did.

I had a gross 73 (2 over par) in a 4BBB yesterday. It was the invitation day and me and my partner played fantastic golf.
However, we still only came 2nd in the nett prizes, two shots behind the winners.
We won best gross, but the prize for 2nd nett was better so we were awarded that (only 1 prize per team).
Your score though (-4 after 16) is amazing, I can only dream of that many birdies in a round).
Well done
