Right I'm going to say this outright, I can't wait for the anchoring ban on putters, having watched Kevin Staddler last night and the poor putting display, only for these comments to be attributed to him (I can't putt with a normal putter I may have to make as much money in 2 ears then run).
If these pros don't have the bottle to overcome the nerves then they don't deserve to be champions, the sooner they are gone the better IMHO, too much average joes winning

Why the emphasis on putting - it's only part of the game. He beat a decent level field across 4 days, fully deserved IMO.

The US commentators quoted Stadler as having said he might give up when the ban comes in.

He should give up something for sure, but maybe he could start with cake.

By the look of him a normal putter is a belly putter :blah:

Did you see his Caddy?

He made baby Stads' look positively slender. A typical example of someone who doesn't understand the meaning of 'left overs' or the salad bar.

Prime example of why you don't have to be a fitness freak to play good golf.

You, of all forummers, should know there's a sizeable () Genetic element!

And obviously Golfing talent has a genetic element too!

Hasn't got his old man's Moustache though - thank heaven!

Fully agree. However, it's not his fault that the rules allow him to use a putter that obviously improves his game. He's doing it for a living after all......but that said, I doubt he's starve when they ban them!

Of course there is a genetic element. Being a greedy sod can be genetic. Dying early of heart disease or diabetes too.

If he eats less and exercises more, though, he will lose some weight.

I actualy find it refreshing that someone built for comfort and not speed can win rather than these gym ripped athletic young bucks. I do agree though that belly putting down the stretch in what was a nerve jangler with Bubba (what was that 2nd he played to 18?) and being able to anchor, MAY have given him some advantage. To be fair though he's cut from the same cloth as the old man and he weren't a bad player in his day. As for the caddy as long as he keeps up, and he seemed to manage that ok.

I think, given he has said that he may have to give up when the belly putters are banned, that there is absolutely no doubt that he got an advantage from the belly putter.

However, I do agree that one of the good things about golf is that you don't have to be the most athletic person to compete.

Might not help his Golf though.

Remember what happened to Monty (lost his swing!) when he lost - a lot! And I know a couple of guys (one +3, another 6) who lost their rhythm - getting 'too quick'. So being bulky can have 'advantages', though plenty of disadvantages too!

As for the Putter...While it's legal, there's no problem with it! I'm sure the comment was with tongue severely in cheek!

amazed theres a thread on bottle and no one mentioning Bubba, for a so called top golfer he was utterly hideous down the last 4 holes

That's a good point. To be fair to Mark Roe, he called it before they started saying that Bubba should win but is a bit fragile mentally and could easily blow it.

Whilst I agree with you about belly putters,I disagree with what your saying about bottle and average Joe"s.
He beat a good American field on a really tough course.
Just an example he beat Michelson by more than ten shots.
As with bottle,Bubba missed a 3ft straight uphill putt to take it to a play off.
Time will tell if he does give up in 2 years, however I doubt that.
