Well, I'm 2 days into my injury enforced golfing sabbatical and i'm bored to tears already. I was booked in to play a mid-week medal today with some friends, so they've played without me. I'm going to walk the dog up to the course in a bit to see how they've done, just to have a bit of contact with the golf course.

So far today, I've been into town to buy some holiday clothes, I've bought a new bike (Specialized Rockhopper Disc 2013), I've looked at a new gym, I've watched 3 episodes of Elementary, I've just realized that I've already forgotten to take my medication (Oooops). It's only 2 days! I've got another 2-4 weeks to go!!!

Has anybody got any ideas to stop me buying more useless stuff? Please god stop me venturing on to eBay!!!!!

the force is strong with evilbay............it pulled me in 5 minutes ago when I was just checking a price.........2 minutes later I've put 2 bids in:rofl:

am 2 weeks in to mine mate and go utterly stir crazy, an invite to play for the scratch team at the weekend just about finished me off. Even worse for me the end doesnt appear to be in sight :(

Unlucky mate. You have had nowt but bad luck so far this year, hope it changes soon and you can get some good golf in.

Apparently there is stuff on the interweb that can keep you amused for hours on end.

Or just read that long book you could never face but would give you a few cultural bragging rights. Maybe a bit of Dostoyevsky - Crime and Punishment seems appropriate in the circumstrances. Either that or LotR - or 50SoG

Thanks guys. Some good (and not so good) suggestions. The drinking a lot one is very tempting but I think I'm gonna use the time to lose some weight. I've dug out some books that I haven't yet read and I'll start on them tonight.

Just checked in with my usual playing partner and it looks like he's in for a 0.6 cut after todays round. Its his first cut in 12 months, and the first comp he's played without me since his last cut. I'm beginning to sense a pattern here!!!

If you like Big Break (no, not the one with John Virgo), there's every episode of every series available to watch on the Golf Channel's website.

Not everybody's cup of tea but I enjoyed watching them.

Now thats a good suggestion... Do they have the Ladies ones as well?

I guess if you use a laser rangefinder (or even GPS thingy) you could practice your eye-ballling distance estimation. Maybe estimating distance to the 6th lamp-post down the street on the RHS - or the distance to the red vw polo at no 45. Might reduce any dependency you have on the things :)

So, you're suggestion is for me to learn to do something (that I'm already pretty good at tbh), that I don't need to learn to do, and therefore to avoid doing something that I am perfectly entitled to do? Maybe, whilst I'm at it, I could change all the shafts in my irons for hickory sticks and learn to play 18 with them.;)

Or, I could remove all the lightbulbs from my house and teach the kids to sweep chimney by candlelight!!;)

I'm five months & four days into my enforced six months lay off so I feel your pain.
They say it gets easier every day ................. IT DOESN'T!
My advice is to bury your nose into a good book, something like this one
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stack-Tilt-Swing-Definitive-Remaking/dp/1592404472 .

Wishing you well & vounting the days down for you,

Slime.

Yup - I suppose you could ;)

BTW my GPS-thingy, Laser finder device suggestion would only be worth doing if you wanted to ditch your machines or get better at your eye-balling. Both which you are not in a mind to do. So I wouldn't bother - and don't send the kids up the chimney - makes a mess of your towels I find.
