Got to the course today to find i came second in the winter pairs on Sunday after shooting 75.

Tonight i was 5 UNDER through ten holes, realised what a great score i was on and held it together alright-ish till the 16th, finished bogie, bogie, bogie for a 1 under par total of 69.

My previous best was three lots of 71 (+1).

I am really chuffed. STILL i left at least the three out there. stupid, game. I think i'll get a 1.2 cut today too which would put me on 8.2. CHRIST.

Thanks lads.

i went 77, 75, 69 this week, so its going ok. Cat 1 = pipe dream.

Its actually rock hard round our way mate, i'm crap when the cold weather comes in. Toooo many layers on!

I took a couple of lesson last year (May time) and basically play 3 times a week.

Last week i went to the range and hit 100 balls on Thursday and Friday. played Sat, Sun and then Wed. Mostly practiced from inside 150 yards and hit about 10 drives, probably only 3/4 back (so it feels) and then through it nicely, only about 220 - 250 yards but mainly all straightish - ie. in play. 250 is a maxed out one though.

checked my HDID and im on exactly 8. Quality, im well chuffed.

Well done and good shooting.... to go slightly off topic - your h/cap should reflect your play when you have a good/decent round, do you think 8 is right seeing as you've smashed it 3 times this week? Just wondering what you think... (and implying that there's a fault in the h/cap system at the same time) ;)

Thanks Just.

I agree totally, there's a flaw in it somewhere. I play every Sat and Sun, and most weeks thats competitive play, as are most Wed's. Through the month we have a major comp, two monthly Stablefords and a Medal. Minor comps on all the other days (sat, sun & Weds) just for the sake of really.

I've been playing almost 3 years perhaps, and ignoring the first 2 where i basically hacked it about and not improving.
Since May last year (took a lesson) I've dropped from what i thought was 18ish (HDID shows me at March '09 as being 24?). My handicap is lagging behind my actual play -- assuming it reflects your better days (which its supposed to do).

Ours is a short course, but there's many hazards if your not accurate, lakes, streams, ditches and OOT. Im a short hitter really but accurate enough. Good with my wedges too from inside 100y. Putting is average - 32 ish per round. We have quick greens which i like, i can play to the lower sides easily enough with my wedges and putt from there ;)

The system isnt right - my best would be, at my track, about a 66 if im being realistic.

BUT, i would say this. I went to the Luton Hoo trip a couple of months back. It was windy and it was long (7000 ish i think) I was off 12 then and i got 30 stableford points. I didnt drive well and my long iron game was very poor, as were my woods. Think i made a few good holes but nothing really much good. Reckon if i played it 4 or 5 times my best there may be about 78, which would be 6 over! its guess work though, maybe i'd surprise myself, maybe i'd adjust and practice the long game off the deck a LOT more.

Dont think its really right, but then loads and loads of data must have been used to determine a fair-ish system and in general terms it does work. Have no ideas to make it better really either

Yeup. 5.4 and below.
Then your handicap is only adjusted on White tee comps and by the county, not your club.
Doing great Spin, hope you get Cat1 mate.
quoted Bob only because at our club we only get a cut on the medal/white tees no matter what handicap you are. Is Scotland different?
