Our night thermostat is set to about 19-20 C and we have TRVs on the rads. In the evening 7pm-11pm, the rads are usually on and the rooms are fairly warm. However, the kid is usually woken up around 2-3am and if I check the rad in his room it will be stone cold and room will be fairly chilly (may be the reason why he wakes up).

Never figured this out, why the heating just dies around that time of the night since no one changes the setting and TRVs are set to a constant '6/Max'

Really strange you should post this, my 19 month old has started to wake up at this time too and wondered if it was the heating. Might need to just bite the bullet and have the heating on for longer.

I thought this was a thread about my old dear at first :D

I'm guessing that the rad is hot when it's on any other times ?

Is it a thermostat that you can move between rooms or built into your boiler?

No.. Central wall mounted thermostat downstairs

What are the other rads doing when the one in the boy's room is stone cold?

havent really checked... will check tonight

Yup, it works fine at other times,

Have no idea on the boiler question but my children are 23 and nearly 22 and we only had the heating on very low overnight if it was minus temps outside. Daughter is doing the same at her house with our 22 month old grandaughter. She had problems with her waking up if the heating was on overnight:confused:

I guess need to find out what the other rads are like at that time of night

Just set the thermostat higher and adjust the trv in each room to your desired temp, sometime you might need to balance the flow to ensure the trv can operate properly.
If you set them right you can then pretty much leave the heating on permanently. You might also be able to aleter the flow temp in the boiler in the einter so the radiators heat more quickly should the teml drop.

I'd say this.....

Turn the main thermostat up and then turn your rads in the downstairs down so they don't turn the living room into a sauna. It takes some tinkering to get it right especially when the temp outside changes.
