Ok folks where are your bogie holes -

At 'home' my problem holes seem to be the 2nd, 3rd 8th and 17th.

Normally the 3rd is the hardest - Long blind 1st and 2nd uphill tight par5, OB the whole way up the right and behind green, SI2. It really is a beast and is guaranteed to ruin one card in every fourball.

Problem is its the 3rd and it is so hard to get into rhythm before it. It then knocks the tripe out of you and you still have the next 14 to contend with. The other problem holes don’t really cause as much hassle as this beast.

Share your demons - is it the first? 18th? Par 3 with water get them out and show us pics if you can.

par 3 13th is my nemesis, it's not difficult, around 160, plays a 6 or 7 for me depending on wind. Anyway there is a bunker front left and green slopes to right. I always pull it left either into bunker or left of bunker, I know it's coming before I do it and despite going through routine and aiming correctly etc something psychological is going as on Saturday yet again I'm left again despite not being on the course in 6 weeks.
You have no shot from the left side as you have to carry the bunker but stop it on a downsloping green with flag usually left hand side.
I had 3 double bogeys out of 4 rounds in club champs here back in June, left every time.
I hate it! :(

this is the beast, the water just has this attraction for the ball despite having made birdies here.

and this can just spoil your day, no reason for it, on the face of it it's just a simple straight-forward par 4 but that wide fairway sucks you into the river on the right or the fringes of the lake on the left

The 4th is a nightmare, 466 yards par 4.

Tee off facing a hill, at the top of the hill is a dogleg left between trees then a straight run with a 3 wood to the green, BUT if you fail to draw the shot you can end up in the trees or rough, whats worse is any fade or slice is punished with a visit to the forest.

Failing that hole its the 430 yard par 5 (yes I know par 5 shorter than par 4) which has a massive fairway to temp you with, once you get to 260 - 280 the fairway is slopping sideways with a up hill shot to an elevated green on top of a hill backed by a 10 foot rock cliff, bunkers and stew if cut short, I generally boggie this hole, my friend pulled off an Eagle a few weeks ago.

The one hole I dred to play and can knock ten belts of stuffing out of me and my score card is the 9th, a par 4 250-260ish hole with trees halfway leaving a 10-15 yard gap to drive through anything off center is heavly punished.

Our 5th hole, par4 463 yards off the normal tees just begs to have the corner cut, a little. Off the medal tees its very difficult to bully the ball over and sometimes when trying to get as close to the rhs of the fairway with a fade, the fade doesnt come and you end up in either the trees straight ahead or just short of them in the rough with another 230 yds to the green which is protected by two bunkers, a road and 2 meter high hedgerow on each side.
In our club championship yesterday I managed to get just beyond the corner with 220 to the green from the rough, took out the 5wood and made it easily across but put it intot he trees on the left of the green, hd to chip backwards as it was just too risky trying to fly it low under branches over a bunker and stop it on a flat green with a bunker waiting on the other side...took 6.

We have our own Amen Corner-only 2 holes-the 6th & 7th.
6th Par 3 180 yds-index 10-off the whites generally played into prevailing wind-water along the right hand side, bunker short right, many a medal card ruined on this hole.
7th par 4 401-Index 2-off the whites-OB along the right, lake in front of tee, large trees on the left, narrow view of fairway.

My hole is our 6th. Only 180 odd yard par 3 but has OB left and right. Can't seem to get one straight. Normally a weak slice OB left and then over compensate with a hook left

Mine is the 12th hole. Simple par 3 but i hooked the ball first time I played it and now cannot get the idea of going left out of my mind. Now it is not a case of whether I hook it but how badly. Sadly thick rough on a downhill slope to the left means a high chance of a lost ball.

Many thanks for this. Anyway as everyone can now see it is quite a narrow shoot. The land actually drops away and where the bush line runs across is actually a ditch ready to catch anything hit thin or fat. The trees on the right run all the way down until about 20 yards short of the gree so anything right is dead and OB. Slightly more room left but the ground falls away so anything left tends to kick further left and OB. A hook or over done draw has the same result.

Only 180 off the back but I can't hit anthing. At the moment double is a good score for me. I've tried hitting 5 wood to go long hoping to clear the trees if I push it right (nope). I've tried a hybrid (right club for the shot) but normally hit a weak slice even if every other shot to that point has been good. I've even taken a 6 iron to get over the ditch to try and chip and 2 putt but the rough there is thick and so a playable lie is a lottery.

It is totally a mental thing now but all my playing partners on a weekend have similar problems. Even in a matchplay game where there is a certain element of freedom I can't seem to make a decent swing even after using all the positive mind images I've learnt.

I think this thread proves one thing. Every course, however easy or difficult it is perceived, has one hole, usually one of the most innocuous, that will shred a card to pieces.

Played it in February - and loved it. The 2 holes you talk about certainley stick in my mind - On the Par 3 I had par - Par 4 - hit water, then drop went into bunker 2 out and 3 putt = fuming Ken and laughing playing partners. If I got it right 9 was a fantastic par 3 also.

That hole of yours would suit my high fade lovley - but all my regular partners hit slices or draws and I can see that the would all have problems with it.

Different shot shape = different problems for everyone.

Our first is a dog leg left, I have learnt to close the face for a draw and open more to fade, this has totally helped me get to grips with this one, a usual 5i closed lands in the target zone (I say this, no doubt from now onwards it will be way off)
