We had a bogey comp the other day and it was deemed a non qualifier. This is the only comp this time of year that gets treated like this. Per CONGU manual it should be a counter. Is the club allowed to make it a non qualifer? What do other clubs do?

The club needs to have very good reasons for it not being a qualifier.
I don't think they have any good reason. I was chatting to the ex m&h convenor, says it can't be a qualifer, its matchplay. Just poor word of mouth. The last place these guys look is the CONGU manual.

I must admit the first time I played it I wasn't aware it was a qualifier and as soon as I lost the hole to the course I picked up, as you would in matchplay, obviously you can't do that as you have to hole out and play it still as a medal. Poor communication from our Pro at the time when handing over our cards and not explaining the format fully and normally all qualifiers are shown in our diary next to the named comp, and this wasn't!

I didn't enjoy the format though.

I agree, its my least favourite format and most misunderstood. I decided to do a supplementary score as well which made me focus on the gross/stableford score.

You don't have to continue play after the point where you can't halve the hole Robin. Your handicap adjustment is worked out on a matrix especially for Bogey comps I believe

This true
We don't play it but I rather like the format having played it my previous Club, but wouldn't be every month. Its quite demanding

I personally think its the hardest form of golf that we play, luckily only once a year though

Ive only played a bogey comp once and I didnt enjoy it tbh. There was also much debate between my PP's about picking up or playing out the hole. We played out the hole just to be on the safe side.
