Following Fish great win and name on the board - just wondering how many people here have their names on the board

Also does your club have a lot of boards or just some board for a few major comps ?

We have the major ones for - the club champs gross and net, all the major knockouts , the big Xmas comps , plus a few other one off comps each year - bogey comps. capts and presidents comps.

I have so far managed to get my name on 7 boards around the place with 4 K/O's

Club champs is the only board comp at both my clubs and I can't see myself getting my name on that one!

We have loads of Board comps, and trophy comps.
You would think that they would be the same thing, but they're not.

I'll never win the ladies club championship (scratch) which is Board and trophy, but did manage to win the Hcp subsection one year (Trophy but no board)

I think I've got my name on about 5 boards, and a couple of extra trophies. One biggie, the rest tiddlers
Just been told that last year's hole in one DOES qualify to go on the board!

both the men's and lady's section at my club have several boards, currently got my name on twice and have won another 2 this season, in the final of the knockout so maybe another one too.

Board Comps are a peculiarly English thing. Most clubs up here will have a board for the Club Champion and for the Club Captain and that's it. Yes we have bigger events and trophies but your name on the trophy is the ultimate accolade. Never seen the need for anything more ;)

12 Board Comps and I have managed two of them, one foursomes and one single medal, but I somehow don't see me adding to them.

One that got away was where my partner and I were "provisionally" declared the winners on the Sat evening but when the cards were checked it became a tie as the other pair had signed for the correct gross score but wrong result. We then lost the play-off on the 18th green of a second play-off round. Club rules did not permit sudden death.

2 for me - though a 3rd was 'stolen' by a silly club/comp rule (and a nervy tee shot on 17!).

No Scratch ones (Matchplay or Strokeplay) though (2nd once ), which are the only ones that really count.

My last club had plenty of boards and I got my name on Captain's Day twice - '97 and '99
Didn't make any others.
Current club has simply Club Champs, Short Course champs and Captains - not going to get on any of those!

AS DBC says we don't have these in Scotland as such, other than Club Champ with is Scratch.

We do have some Silver Trophy's a couple are Handicap.

We have a few at our place and I managed to get my name on one last weekend for the first time in my life. 4 under was enough to do the job and get me my second cut of the year.

Got my name on one. Memorial trophy team event played over 6 rounds. We smashed it and was way ahead after 4 rounds. Have won a few stable fords and a couple of net medals.

I couldn't win jack at the mo as swing & confidence were shot so slowly rebuilding lol

As others have said, we don't seem to have them up here, other than club championship. The championship (scratch) seems a real achievement, players with their names there have really earned the accolade. I enjoy looking at these boards in various clubs especially those where I know some of the better players and can recognise the names. But winning some handicap comp is a bit arbitrary so I don't really understand the kudos you seem to attach to "board comps" down there. Not wishing to denigrate anyone's achievement as I imagine these are well regarded within the individual clubs but fairly meaningless to the uninitiated....

Anyway, my name's up there on the ladies champions board...

Sorry but surely you are not being handicap snobbish by dismissing handicap comps ?

Probably, but it's my opinion that handicap comps are pretty meaningless. Sorry.

Yet very relevant to 99.999999% of amatuer golfers in the world.

Its those comps that allow everyone to be able to play and compete in the game

Amateur comps wouldnt last long without them.

Calling them meaningless is very handicap snobbery and very demeaning to a lot of golfers.

Whilst I agree, scratch comps are a true test of golfing ability, but only a handful of players at a club can win the scratch.

The nett is open to all, all can win therefore in real terms has a bigger field.

Board comps are only important to those that have won one, or their mates who may be slightly envious.

That said I'd quite like my lad, in 30 years time, to read my name up at Brok, but not for a mixed, winter Texas scramble:D
