Monthly medal today and played to my handicap. By my standards, everything was sound apart from my putting but even for a 22 handicapper, 8 three putts has gotta be unacceptable

I've PM'ed an old man for a V sleazy....I really hope it has something to do with porn

Surely a 22 handicapper isn't supposed to be surprised at 3 putting but 8x in a round is taking the wee wee. How many times do the 18+ handicappers on here thnk is acceptable to 3 putt in a round ?

had 6 3 putts myself,, was shocking all game, either v short or way past, lines were terrible aswell

last week I had no 3 putts and chipped great, so my 105 today should easily have been a low 90's

for me as a 28 h/c (unofficial) I can par anything on the course be it a longish par 5 or tricky par 3, hell I even have a few birdie putts and had 1 eagle chance today. what I cant do is sustain that consistantly over 18 holes.

I am sure it was just an off day and next time out you will do much better

A lovely thought mate but the last 3 rounds have totalled 6 under par but 4x4 putts and 12x 3 putts. I used to expect to hole every 6 footer(not that I did, of course) but now I don't even expect to hole the 2 footers

practice the 6 footers till you feel confident again. Surely then anything 6 feet and under you will just step up and nail it (most of the time).

am sure Bob will chip back in soon as he seems to know his stuff ;)

I'm afraid there is no short cut other than working on your stroke and maybe a lesson. It's one of those things that really takes time and effort to get a stroke that works regularly and gets it in the hole. The V-Easy will help as its a great aid but work hard and I'm sure you'll see the benefits

When I was off 18+, I had 40 putts most games.
Off 12, I aim for 34 at worst.

Hold on....does this mean my long game hasn't improved at all since 1994?

Ohhhh, now I'm on a downer........ :(

In saturdays medal I had over 40 plus putts off 20hc. I think my putts were 1 less than my total other shots. Think I had 9 3 putts. I realistically should've broke 80 but that's golf. On the bright side I'll get a cut!

I don't suppose there's a normal amount of 3 putts as we all have different strengths and weaknesses.

If you had 9 x 3 putts and you are going to be cut, your long game must be pretty good

Yes Bob it was good on Saturday. This is my second season having missed last year because I broke my arm twice :( :( I get a few lessons a week as my friend is a pro. My long game is not normally that good as I'm always working on my swing but we've got rid of a lit of faults now.

I think the problem with my putting is I've just not hit enough putts. I'm still not got a set up I'm comfortable with but I'm sure it will come. Tried all sorts of putting aids including v easy. Just lacking feel :(

Pick up a copy of Dr Bob Rotella " Putting it out of your mind" - a couple of quid on Amazon. I read it last year and drastically cut my 3 putts and in turn my handicap. Nothing to do with technique, all about mental state (i.e emptying your head of all teh crap that spins around when you normally step up to the putt) This lets you just concentrate on the putting stroke itself.

This year's project is getting my short game in order. Everything from 100yds on the dancefloor and everything from 50yds within 12 feet....here's hoping !!

Yeah I read one of his books before. Can't remember the name of it. I'll probably give it a read. My pro mate thinks I suffer mentally with golf shots but I don't think I do. I put my self down as philosophical and was quite happy with my performance on Sat. Do me no harm reading that book though! ;)
