Due to the frosty weather in Ireland over the past two weekends the course was closed ruining the final two weekends of our "Turkey Shoots".

Wouldn't mind if it was frosty for the whole week but it decides to get frosty Friday and Saturday nights--this morning around 6 degrees and P*****g rain as i cycled to work.

What a bummer.

Last weekend the course was closed due to snow, now the rain got rid of that its starting to bloody freeze again which means no golf for a second week grrrr I went to the driving range about two weeks ago when frosty and lost about 20 practice balls :fistshakey:

I played Saturday in beautiful, if not tricky sunlight, in surprisingly mild temperatures, had a lovely game. Played yesterday morning and the ground was rock hard. All greens were open, but trying to land the ball on them was like hitting concrete. If you did get the ball to stay on, putting was a mare, bobbling all over the shop, superfast one minute, superslow the next, impossible to judge as the ball would change direction at the slightest contact with the ice.

Still, better a bad day on the golf course than a good day in the office  and it wasn't that bad :D

I played on Saturday, frost wasn't an issue but the sun was dreadful. I resigned myself to taking irons off the tee into the sun in the end because anything further then about 180 and you just completely lost the ball.

There were four holes facing that way on the front and the same on the back. Luckily of the 8 holes I only strayed from the fairway 3 times so could find them, just gutted about the loss of distance.

I live in Olney so I tend to play a mix of a few tracks not being a member.

Wavendon and Abbey Hill over in MK.
Mowsbury in Bedford.
Delapre and Brampton Heath in Northampton and Pychley Lodge in Kettering (which is were I was blinded!!!)

I was driving to work today, and thinking about knocking golf on the head till at least Feb, as I am already fed up with the temporary greens and the cold weather. It is either wet, cold and miserable, or bright, sunny, cold and frosty. Not golfing weather.

Going to FL in April, golf in the warm. Something to look forward too.

i went out this morning. sun was out, no rain but everywhere had standing water.

~It was just slop everywhere. I cut the round down to 7 holes it was that bad. I am sick of the sound of squelching.

Brand new Stuburt shoes...

Very much not white anymore!!!

You know the ground is bad when you are on the fairway having to shift around like you were in a bunker to try and get a solid base!

I dont really like the range, but I have no choice, I have a lesson tonight and my course is under a bloody river.

It didnt rain a drop when I was out this morning but yet I was still soaking when I got back the club

I have to say I can't find any motivation to go out and play. I played last Friday and whilst we are on normal greens and they are in really good nick and putted well there was a lot of standing water especially on the back nine.

The thing that really stops me though is either going out in the real cold weather early on and battling with the frost or playing later in the day and having to cope with low sun and not seeing the ball and the real quick fall away in temperature once the sun starts to drop. I have base layers, polo jumpers and woll jumpers, hats and winter mittens, but I can't get fired up to play a social round. I'll play if it is a match or competition but can't get my juices flowing just to knock it round.

I think this is the sort of weather ideally suited to serious range time and working on swing faults (under proper guidance) and for just keeping the swing going until we get some warmer weather or at least lose that north wind chill

Not too keen on swinging a club at all in these conditions. Way too easy to put my back or neck out. Need to really warm these up before playing if it is cold. Especially don't like slippy conditions. Again, a little slip, and bing, my neck is in trouble.

God I hate getting old.

Went out today at 10:50. What a poxy day for golf. Freezing cold, rock solid greens, bunkers full of water that had iced over. Started pi$$ing down half way round.

The course shouldn't have been open to be honest but i'm glad it was as i equalled my PB. 77;6 over. What a strange game this is.

Thank god for Under Armour!!!

Maybe because I can still be classed as a novice, I don't find it difficult to go out on the course in the cold, even with the mud. I suppose there is still enough novelty.

I know I should be taking lessons but at the moment it's a question of allocating funding and so far getting the cam belt changed, paying the car tax and the really motivational stuff, Goswick and Ascot, take precedence.

a bit of range time tonight though as I want to try Moe's swing.

Homer,

couldn't get it to work for me but then I didn't really expect it to on one try, kept hooking it. But, I did find a set up that let me hit it long and pretty straight.
Of course all I have to do is remember it! :D
