Playing Blackmoor this thursday as a reciprocal, I know there are a few members on here. What is the condition etc like

Any local knowledge tips for a good round?

Stay on the fairways or take plenty of balls.

Excellent course and club, one of my favourites

Lovely course with superb greens.
A good mix of holes, no two are alike.
Par 3's are tough, (well two of them are).
Being able to shape the ball off the tee is a distinct advantage but mostly suits a fade.

Really cracking course , nice and friendly welcome , nice halfway hut :D , always seems in immaculate condition , a good test of golf with some very good par threes , great finishing hole

Got the odd dodgy member though :D

Make sure you are on the correct tier on 13!

And don't miss the 18th green to the right!

Stay out of the heather!

Enjoy! It's a rather nice course!

Oh! And be aware that there's a ditch/stream to either take on or lay up to on the 1st - at 220-ish!

Thanks for the replies, really looking forward to it now.

Coming from a heathland course myself I know only to well the perils that lie in the heather

Ahh yes the Half way hut, seem to remember it took a while for one of our fourball to come out from there, can't for the life of me remember why?

It looks fabulous at the moment as the heather is in flower and the condition is great, but then it always is, if you don't love it I'll be amazed.

Stay out of the heather it's brutal. If the pin is on the top level of 13 there is more room than it looks so be sure to take enough club, back of the green is better than front.

Be sure to check the half way hut, especially if Katie is there.

I love the course and im playing it twice again in Sept and Oct.

It is a faders course and that's why I loved it when I first went there, now I draw it a little I might find it a little tougher.

Played yesterday and the course was in lovely condition. Big junior County comp, and the greens were a good pace.

Very tight in places, so don't always need the driver. 2nd hole is the only blind tee shot, and don't go left. Long iron/hybrid with a little draw aiming down the right is perfect. Also don't tee off the wrong tee. The nearest tee to the green is not always the right one.

Greens nearly all slope from back to front, exceptions 3 and 7. Most are raised so if you miss them you will leave a tricky chip. Short is the best place to miss, except on the par 3's. Long is usually dead. 10 and 11 need a fade off the tee. otherwise you will run out of fairway left with a straight drive. Apart from those two straight down the middle is good.;) The 5th needs a 200 yard tee shot as close to the ditch as you dare. OB right. Hole then turns 90 degrees.

15th is one of the hardest par 3's you will play, and the 18th one of the best finishing holes. Don't go right, or long left or you will be in the car park.

Play off the white tees, we all do, and whilst it does not make a huge difference to most holes, the 16th is much better off the whites.

Sausage/bacon baps at the halfway hut are the best around, and hope that Katie is serving. I notice that Hawkeye has now realised the attraction of the halfway hut.

I played Ferndown on the reciprocal, and will be looking to play there again next month.

I am sure you will ahve a cracking day.

You and others say this but I draw the ball or a hook is a bad shot and I've always navigated myself around the course very well with good results, maybe if your not as long off the tee and have slightly longer approaches it doesn't come into affect as much, I know there are plenty of left to right doglegs but playing to the bends rather than trying to fade them or playing them with a long driving draw and running out of room will be costly so playing shorter off the tee is the answer if you can't fade on demand?
