Bit of help needed here with routes to Blackmoor.
Fragger advises me to give the M25 route a miss as it'll be hell on toast. The best other way for me is to go via Oxford, Newbury, Basingstoke, Farnham and then Borden but that's a heck of a lot further and waaay more chance of going wrong and ending up in Wales or somewhere!!
So my preference is for the M25, M3, A331, A325 route.

What sort of time do I have to get to the M3/M25 junction to miss the herds of traffic that'll threaten to ruin my day? How bad does it get down there...?

Route planner's showing me 1 hr 37mins..

Help - I don't get out of Aylesbury much these days....

Got a similar problem. Easiest route from sunny Watford is m25 etc, so I will either be there at six thirty, or lunch time. No point in starting in the opposite direction.

Ian,
The section of the M25 from Watford to Heathrow gets very busy from 6am onwards. Not sure how the increase of lanes has helped, perhaps someone like Rickg can help.

How about going to High Wycombe, then A404 to M4, west to Bracknell, then to Bagshot etc?

Chris,

The route I used to take from Hatfield area when traffic was bad on M25 was A412 towards Uxbridge (M40 junction), then Slough, Ascot, Bagshot.

I'd suggest M40, A404, A329, A322, M3 etc - 1' 57" according to Google Maps.

Bottom of M40 and M25 round to M3 will be bad from 7:30ish on.

I wasn't copying TXL honest - he obviously types faster.

But we're not feeing off til after ten. Now obviously trying to get there for ten is a no, but if I leave at say seven, I've got three hours plus to get there. It should be possible?

That said, the great gm experiment at crow borough should have taken less than two hours, and took four.

But so will the HIgh Wycombe /A404 on the M40. Some of my staff commute from Aylesbury/Thame to reaidng/Wokingham and say it's pretty bad as well.

Is teh A34 a bit out of teh way ?
:(

If I go the M'way route I'll probably leave home at 6 so I think I'll take my chances with the biggest car park in England....
What I don't want is too complicated a route. If most towns are like Aylesbury then from 8 everything grinds to a halt anyway.

Oxford/A34 etc route is like going around the world in comparison. From my place I can be on the M25 before I'd have got to Bicester...

M20, M25 & A3 for me

I do know the A3 well. The major hold up is at Hindhead traffic lights. They have put in a huge tunnel, but unfortunately it is not opening until the beginning of July. :( I know bad organization !! ;)

I blame Smiffy ;)

Auto Route say 1:38 but I will give it 3 hours just in case :D

Thoroughly reassuring......

The 50 mph limit has now been lifted between Watford and the M3 so it's a bit better.
I've been down that section of the M25 twice this week, once 1st thing in the morning to get to Donington Valley (M25/M4) and once all the way round to Gatwick in the afternoon.

Both times didn't have any problems and traffic was flowing freely........however last Friday in the opposite direction there was a rolling roadblock due to a car that had overturned in the outside lane.

The M25 is a bit like Russian Roulette.....you might get an empty barrel but all it takes is one accident and you're screwed and looking for escape routes.....

Hi guys im coming from the south,up the A303,joining the M3.Is it then the best option to come off at jtn5 and head for Farnham on the A287 and then the A325 to Borden, thx

Tony, yes you need to come off junction 5 at Hook. Ignore M3 signs to Farnham they will take you to towards Camberley, Farnborough at junction 4. A287 towards Farnham. If you want to avoid town continue on 287 through Hale, and at the end of the road turn right onto A31 towards Farnham Bypass. Careful at 2nd roundabout you do not get in lane to Guildford.(best to keep in right hand lane over both roundabouts) Through traffic lights near Farnham station, and at next roundabout take first left A325 to Bordon, Bordon is about 7 miles. Go through Bordon into Whitehill about one mile, and take right at one of the mini roundabouts which is sign posted for club. The last bit is fairly easy, and club is at end of road on the right. If you miss turning into club you will be on the course !

Hope this helps.
