Blackberry GPS app?

Barry - I cant help with the GPS I'm afraid, despite also being a BB user.

But, and dont take this personally, I really wouldnt bother if I were you, it isnt a GPS thats gonna help you get to 20, its more concentration on Course Management and the shot in hand.

I dont think at your level you will have consistent shot distances grooved yet, so knowing the yardage to bunkers/trouble etc is probably irrelevant, - just concentrate on avoiding the trouble, and hitting more GIR.

Like I say, - no offence, just my thoughts.

Totally get it and appreciate your comments - but I'd still like to know my yardages :) One of the areas I'm letting myself down at the moment is in my distance judging; I don't feel I am actually a 27 handicap (more like an 18 - 20 based on recent performances) but either overshooting or undershooting the green on numerous occasions.

There are two to to try

www.bbgpsgolf.com, it's text based, but free and easy to use. If your course isn't there, you need to map it yourself, easy to do, you can add in bunkers, trees, hazards etc.

http://www.swingbyswing.com/ also free, and uses google maps to plot your way around the course. Again, you need to map your own course if it's not already there. A useful feature on this one, you can click on any feature on the map, it will show the distance from you to that point, and the distance from that point to the pin.

I have both apps on my Blackberry. Of the two, I find that bbgps runs better, the swingbyswing seems to error a lot. Hope that helps.

I've tried one or two on friends Iphones and BB's and I personally wouldn't bother.

I tried them out by standing on various markers and they were miles out.

The closest reading was standing on a 150yard marker and the app said 113yards, thats a club or two's difference

I just used golfshot on my iphone and it was bang on with markers etc

made a big difference overall for me with approach shots shame I am pants off the tee ;)

kevin, we tested my caddy pro against a bushnell and also sky caddie 2.5, they were all within one yard of each other. People have mentioned that GPS on the phones can be out due to signal strength, it isnt something i have found..... ever. its my swing thats out ;)

Alot of the accuracy depends on who's mapped the courses.

All the ones I've used have been mapped by myself and are within a yard of any of the on course markers.

I'm not that worried about being a yard or two short/ long. I'm looking more to ensure that I miss that hidden hazard that I can't see from where I'm standing. I only use them as a guide.

Yep. This is exactly how I use mine. If it tells me I have 173 yards to the middle of the green, I might hit it exactly that distance, but chances are, I really won't! Yardages are there as info, not because it means I can stiff it to within 3 ft!
