After playing golf for about 10 years now (not very well either, as I'm still off 20!) I finally hit my first ever hole in one yesterday !!

The trouble was - I was playing 9 holes on my own, so no-one got to see it - Aaaaarghh!!!!

That said - what a feeling !!!
Probably never do it again, but once is enough for me.

shot of a life time and nobody saw it...what a bummer! On the other hand I am more than happy to congratulate you on your achievement, and wish you well in persuading your golfing regulars that you were sober and awake when the ball dropped.

It's the same old story. You've nipped off work, you're wife thinks you're in the office, you're on your own, you're struggling to break 100, there's no one in sight, and you get an ace. Can't tell anyone. Ah well!

Lucky boy! This is great news.....given the chance of fluking, I'd say a 20 h'cap has as good a chance as any!

If it happened unseen by anyone else, who cares? it'll live in your memory.

I've split the cup twice and left pitch marks l/r/short and long.....never bagged one though!

Good for you, I'll have a double snowball and glenmorangie......make me even more sick!!! (with envy)

Agreed, does not matter if anyone saw it. My only eagle was on a short par 4 when playing on my own. Still a good memory though I am jokingly (I hope) accused of making it up every time I mention it.

Don't worry about not getting another one, you will. I have had three, the latest on Sunday. Asking around, most people who have had one, have had more than one, so the world is split into those that get them, and those that don't. The next one is just around the corner.

Congratulations!!

The most important thing is that you know it went in!

I have been lucky to have had a couple in the last year and I never believed it would happen.

The closest I had come before then was 9 years ago in a midweek club match. I hit the hole on our 16th,smashed the cup,the ball span out into a bunker and I made 4!!!

Genuinely felt I would never get that close again.

Thanks Fellas - to be honest it's sunk in a bit more now - and what a feeling !

If I never get another one it doesn't matter - at least I can say I've had one. Many of the people I play with have played for much longer than me (and are off much lower handicaps) and they haven't had one.

To be honest though, what I'm more please about is the fact that it was a genuinely well struck shot - I don't know if I'd have felt the same if I'd have scabbed it and it had run up into the hole !

I didn't buy the clubhouse a drink on Sunday, but that's only because it was 9.30 in the morning when I finished my round, so I went straight home.
I'm going in on Saturday though at a more reasonable hour, and the drinks will be bought then.
