whilst i was playing in my weekly junior comp i hit my ball out the rough and held my follow though until a sharp and extremely painful pain ran down the right side of my neck and all the way down my right side to my ribs. i managed to finish my round...and win but the pain is unbearable, so much that i cant turn my head to the right!!!! anyone got any ideas what this is or maybe had this problem before??

Sounds lie you tweaked a nerve.

When it happened, did you feel a sharp pain followed by a burning sensation down the side of your neck?

I did the same thing this morning whilst driving on the tee. I think you will be ok, just rest up and let it ease itself.

yeah to be honest the pain was that bad that i just dropped my club and crouched down onto the ground!! i'm just hoping that it will be ok for monday because i'm studying golf at college and am supposed to be playing then

What on earth are you asking us lot for???? if the pain is unbearable and you cant turn your head to the right your first port of call should have been the docs not the GM Forum????? Hope your ok anyway but go the Docs!!

Ditto what he said.

It may well just be a muscle pull/ trapped nerve etc. but the only person who can really diagnose that is a trained doctor or sports injury practicioner. If it's still hurting today, go pay a visit.

90% certain that this is a nerve issue with regardless to the pain not being localised over a small area.

Other possibilities are there such as a muscle strain/tear.

The fact that there is restricted movement would also point to a nerve problem.

My advice? A sports massage session.

Go see a physio. You have probably tweaked something that can be put back. Probably got a neck issue. Don't ignore it, and don't swing a golf club til you have seen someone, you could do permanent damage. I suffer from neck problems, and this sounds very familiar. Don't warm it either, bag of frozen peas is a better option.

Great advice from Murphthemog.

If I wasnt a stubborn twit who ignored medical advice I wouldnt be on a lengthy lay-off.

Ditto, had a trapped nerve in my neck a few years back, tried to play through it,ended up not playing for months. Get it checked.
