As per title - my son, 21, has been playing, sporadically, for a couple of years. He's a high handicapper, 28+, and has been playing with a cheap set of eBay-bought clubs. One has broken, and rather than getting a replacement, I've thought about getting him something better.
There's a set of mx 100s being sold locally (sw to 5 iron) for £150. They are described as having had very little use, and the photo of them seems to back up that assertion. So ... I realize that these are several years old, but if they are in v good condition, are they 1) worth the money? 2) suitable for an improver?
I don't yet know about the shafts that are in them, except that they aren't graphite.
TIA.

I used to have some of these, they were graphite shafts and sold them about 2 or 3 years ago for around £120 I think on ebay. But I am a lefty.

I'd possibly suggest that £150 seems a bit steep as there have been several Mizuno models since then aimed at the game improver, so I'd try and haggle some money off. As for forgiveness then I remember they were pretty good, and you will get a bit more forgiveness in and newer models as the technology improves. But I found more forgiveness and I got longer distances in my Cobra S3s when I got them after the MX100s. But I will stress that it my case and someone elses will be completely different, and I suspect the S3s had jacked up lofts compared to the MX100s.

Are they being sold by a club? If so see if your son can have a hit before you commit?

Very good clubs for the purpose.

I'm more a fan of their predcessors - MX-19, 17... but that's more on looks - personal so discountable.

Price seems a bit high, even if in A1 condition. Room for a bit of haggle.

Because use is 'sporadic' shafts are probably not a huge consideration - as long as he's not significantly out of the norm.

I'd possibly follow these on ebay and see what they go for, as that should give you a fair idea of what people are willing to pay for them. There are some 'buy it now' sets at I think inflated prices on there. So you really want to see what the going rate is for a set that is bought and sold, not just a price the seller us trying to get.

I'm about to off load a set of these (4-SW) and I'd be more than happy to get £150 for them. That probably tells you enough about the price for that 5-SW set...

Very forgiving clubs though, but I've just been fitted for and ordered some G25's..
