Has anyone any ideas for what to buy a golf-mad 8-year-old for his birthday? He has no shortage of clubs/bag/trolley/balls etc so I thought I might get him a couple of lessons or something useful like that. I'd like to include something more fun as well if I can, though. All suggestions gratefully received!

what about a funky headcover for putter or driver

I bought one of those retro knitted socks for my 3 wood - pretty cool

What about tickets to some golfing tournament - like HSBC World Match Play at Wentworth - if he is mad about golf he might want to see his heroes up close and personal?

Great idea Trueblue. Got tickets for Wentworth myself as a present, great day out. All the manufacturer stands, seeing the players, excellent.

Great idea, Trueblue.

Or maybe some signed golfing memorabilia. You can buy amazing stuff on ebay. It even has it's own section dedicated to it.

I've got a pair of vintage irons by J Bowie of Findhorn, woud happily sell them for £20 - what about it? Any 8 year old would love those!!

Why not enroll him onthe YMG course (Young Masters Golf). It is a teaching programme that not only focuses on the correct technique but also teaches about etiquette and the main rules of golf.

THere was an interesting feature on the "Out of Bounds" programme on Setanta or you could look at the website www.ymg-golf.com

Happy golfing

Thanks for all the ideas guys. Being in NI, there aren't too many events here to take him to. I settled for a chipping net for the back garden and vouchers for a couple of lessons at one of those YMG centres. He seemed to be pleased with them. :)
