Well, it's that time of year again folks.

BillyG is about to be another year older and another year...older.

in fact i'm going to be (mumble mumble) this year as I was born in (mumble mumble cough)

The missus is heckling for a gift idea and it's going to be something 'golf' this time around.

Budget= about £50 ( we don't go mental on birthday £ as both of us have reached an age where we'd rather not dwell on it but spend money getting completely 'nutted' on Guiness in the pub trying to forget it!)

ideas? :D

I always suggest a nice round of golf somewhere you've always wanted to play, Billy. Let the wife chip in with £50. You pay the rest and get yourself a green fee for somewhere special! I'd like that one.

Hi,

I am just about to post a thread regarding David Leadbetter DVDs. I just bought them a couple of weeks ago and I think theyare great value for money, and inside your budget. Im not sure what you play off but for myself I feel I ve picked up loads in a short time.
Thats my opinion, I sorry I didnt buy it before christmas!!

Happy Birthday whenever its.

The other option is spend the £50 on The Black Stuff. :)

I would go with the green fee idea.

What else would you do?

Balls,tees,gloves etc, they all get used or lost.

A great day out will be with you forever.

Thanks for the ideas all - some really good ones. The greenfee would be great but I think i'll bank that for a year until were both a little more savvy with the clubs - frankly - were 'not worthy' of it yet.

Had the idea of one of these;

http://www.powakaddy.com/pullcarts.htm

which is near the money. Should last for ages, the Masters mx300 I have is falling to bits (and the top clasp strap is a P in the A after a round TBH)

it's either that or one of these;

http://www.pinggolf.co.uk/_uk/putters_karsten.html

Had a look at one other day and fell in love with it. Yes, the Redwood one is nicer but it's just doesn't cut the £/reward balance at my level of skill.

Would need time to get get properly fitted but it's an idea.

Lad i played with yesterday had a powerkaddy pull cart (not sure which model) and it kept falling over.

He said the single wheel was too close to the other so there was little stability and everytime the wind blew, Bye bye clubs, bye bye concentration, hello duffed wedge!

Just my tuppence!

Hi billy
Re powakaddy non-electric - Mr. B has the twinline 2 which you pull and I don't like it - poor balance and feels like a lot of effort. I have the Twinline 3 (for pushing) and it is great - very stable and doesn't strain the back.
Mind you they are both an awkward shape for packing depending on the size of your car boot (though fairly easy to put up and down)
Happy birthday when it comes!

Cheers Ali,

boot space not a problem. The TL3 looks a good idea.

Other half has now got me 'something' so it's in the lap of the gods.Well see soon enough.

Watch this space for the result

I use a Twinline 3 and find it a great trolley and well worth the cash.

Strangely, also tried a Ping karsten putter at the weekend at the end of a long week trying to find a new one (4 pro shops and 3 larger retailers). It was the third best one that I tried behind the Odessey Marksman in second and the eventual winner (and a total suprise as was not looking for a cheap option)the Benross Pure Red. If you are looking for a putter I can tell you that there are some great ones around for about £50.00 at the moment.

My birthday was last Thursday and my better half got me (us) an over night stay at St Andrews Fairmont wityh a game of golf too. My sisters birthday was a couple of days before and my brother in law got her a Spa day so we are going as a foursome. We have invited a couple of mates up for the golf while the ladies get pampered.
