Looking for a gift idea for a golf hack's 40th. I know no one on the forum likes PGA scorecard, ball washers etc. So the question is what would you like to see? Tech savvy and an Arsenal man, also has a kid golfer at home. He has recently got a new set of Ben Ross, so rules out clubs. Initially thought of getting him a Garmin G6 but it blew the budget. I might get the rest of the usual 4 balls to chip in a few quids if the gift idea is good.

Also, what gift would you like to see on your 40th?

MOD>> Not sure if this is a Lounge or OOB question since it is golf related, so feel free to move it.

I'm assuming he just got Benross irons? Is there anything else he needs? A rangefinder or GPS between your fourball might be a good idea.

If not its hard to go wrong with a 12 pack of balls, whatever his favourite brand is

The 4-ball has decided on getting him a day out at a top course (some might argue that this was decided purely on a selfish basis)

Next question, where down south (Surry/Hamps) top course can we get a 4ball for <400? Place should let hacks in, because the lads dont have a handicap certificate.

A top course that lets "non handicap" golfers ( as opposed to hacks ) will be a push

Or can these guys play just don't have a HC ?

I wouldn't mention to any club 'hacks'. West Hill requires golfers to be competent. Have a word with Jane in the office , she will sort you out.

they can all play.... WH would be ideal.. will give Jane a call.. (should I say Richart sent me - or will that kill it)

Aiming to play Sat or Sun 13th or 14th Dec. Not sure how West Hill plays that time of the year. Alternately Foxhills (have never played there) or Bearwood (another fav, but a walking course in winter), Worpls (again not sure of the course condition) or Cambs Heath. Time to ring around..

Personally wouldn't play Foxhills, gets very wet, and not the best of courses (both). Well below the standard of the other courses you have mentioned. West Hill drains well, as does Worplesdon, so as good as any at this time of year. Played West Hill beginning of last month and it was in great condition. Not sure you can get on Bearwood Lakes, as I think you need to play with a member. PNWokingham or Ethan can advise.

You will need to check that you can play at the weekend at West Hill and Worplesdon. A lot of clubs in the area only allow guests playing with members at the weekend.

Looks like West Hill is not an option... They have their Christmas Shotgun on Sunday 14th December with a full field. Also they are not taking any visitors mid week until February (due to daylight hours) so cannot offer anything for the foreseeable future..... :(

Will try Worples
