What do you reckon it is?

A few things come to mind.........

Football World Cup final

Olympic 100m final

Superbowl

Men's Wimbledon final

Indy 500

Monaco Grand Prix

Heavyweight title fight

What do you think??

Badminton Horse Trial is rather large attendance wise.

The Cross Country Day gets 250K or more!

For TV viewing figures, I'd say something in Asia would top the list.

What is the quantification measurement or is the idea that people chip in with different measurements? Is it possible to compare worldwide viewing/event attendance of one competition with historical importance of another?

Various criteria I guess. TV audience, media attention, financial value, global appeal.

Something like the Indy 500 gets massive crowds (500,000) probably making it the largest event in the world but it has very little appeal outside of the USA. The World Cup final possibly has the biggest global appeal but I'm guessing the Olympic 100m final might draw the biggest TV audience?

Not a bad bucket list. I've only managed one of those but would love to complete the set.

Slime.

For viewing figures, the superbowl is uncontested. Champions league final/world cup final has to be up there for general world wide figures depending on team.

I remember going to brands hatch in around 96 ish when Carl fogarty was king of world superbikes, recall after that it was the biggest attended sports event in the uk for an age, some like 140,000 people. I do remember queuing for an hour for a grot burger!

No wonder Grots have become extinct....

Hmm... Maybe domestically in America but the worldwide audience for the World Cup final dwarfs the Super Bowl.

Indivual sporting event with people attending is Le Tour when it goes up Alp Du H'uez, no? Over 1 million people on the route.

Indy 500 is next, I believe

For TV, nothing beats World Cup final
