You see a new shiney, you want the new shiney, you buy the new shiney.....then you realise that the new shiney makes no difference and that you were rubbish to start with, so you get rid of it at a loss to your wallet. Ouch, swallow pride and NEVER tell the wife how much it really cost...

So, what is your biggest shiney (Albert Luque-esqe) faux pas? And what did you learn from it?

Having had a few (ok, more than a few), my biggest has to be buying a brand new Scotty Cameron Newport 2.6 for £200+, then selling it a few weeks later for significantly less......unless of course the wife asks in which case I got my money back......sssshhhhh.

Bought one of them callaway square headed things when they first came about. Well considering that they were supposed to be the holy grail of straight drivers I couldn't get it anywhere near the middle of the fairway, no matter what swing I put on it.

Anyway sold it within a week .... Luckily they were still in short supply so managed to make £10 on my original purchase price.

Only one answer isn't there. G25 irons. In my head it was a good idea with the state of my game, but had I hung on, I could have got the I20 (now I25). I don't regret it though. I did what I thought was best for my game at the time

Bought a set of R9's three years ago - lasted 3 months of truly awful golf - bought for £399 sold for £250

My recent I20 Irons.

Can not hit them for the life of me. 5 Range sessions and 2 rounds around 700 balls in total and so far when I do make any sort of decent hit ive managed to lose a club in distance.

Oh well back to the old Ap1's

As for the hit in the pocket ive no idea yet.

Worst. Easy.

Brought a Bettinardi as thought it was better than my Scotty. Lasted a month

The lessson wasn't really learned though as I sold it for what I paid for it :whoo:

When I started playing again a couple of years ago I had the black headed Taylormade Burner Tour tp Driver, 3 wood and hybrid and some Mizuno Pro II Blades.

Thinking that I wanted a fresh start I ended up selling them all and going through a Superfast 2.0, Ping G15, Ping i20 Hybrid, Cobra AMP, Ping G5's, Ping S59's, Ping S58's before finally getting fitted for my Taylormade's through GM.

Never really lost money but lost a lot of time and effort when, in truth, the Ping 58's were no better than the Mizuno Pro II blades I had - and the AMP was no better than the Burner Tour.

I bought the g20 driver for £140, this was obviously when I was naive enough to think I could actually use such a piece of equipment. Sits in the corner gathering dust.

Only one for me and it's the same as the OP's.
Used to play with a cheap blade putter given to me by a friend. Went to a golfing outlet to be told with my swing I needed a uss-enterprise-facebalanced-batwinged-weighted-grooved-thingamegig putter.
After trying a few I opeted for a tardis on a stick and paid my £90.
Three weeks later and countless three putts I sold the putter on for £20 to get rid of the damn thing and bought an Odyssey White Hot #3 blade putter from fleabay for £35 and I love it.

Bought the original TM R9 driver when it first released. Paid £350 and couldn't hit the damn thing.
Thankfully around the time of release, Taylormade had an offer that the driver had to be bought within a certain time frame and trialled for a month. If unsatisfied after the month, a full refund would be given.

Too many to mention!

Suffice to say, I don't collect Putters anymore!

Haven't really had a lot of use out of a 7.5* Tour Cobra 414 that is still sitting in the spares bag (about £10/round played probably). A couple of expensive Drivers have 'cost' money but, by the amount of use, they've been very good value. Actually made a profit on a couple as well.

I very rarely buy new clubs, certainly not an iron set. Buying used you can have an extended trial at very little cost and the cost of used clubs, even ones that look as good as new, is often unbelievably low, especially if you can, like me, find a set badly described & photographed on Ebay. With drivers, if I tried to keep up with Taylor made I'd be bankrupt, it's just a joke. I buy the driver one or two back from the latest, the improvements from one model to the next are insignificant for the average player. I currently use RBZ stage 1 & R11 woods and my last new buy was an RBZ hybrid, bought for £89.99, just before they reduced it to £69.99!

Mine would be the Taylormade White Smoke putter I bought less that 12 months ago, paid for a fitting and then the club around £130 for both, never got on with the club. Took it to AG on Friday for a trade in and was told it was worth £15, so I kept it and shelled out full price for a new putter.

We'll see how long this one lasts into the season.

20 months ago I had a fitting with TM. Shelled out for MB/MC combo irons, and had the worst 6mths golf I'd had for years. My scores fell off a cliff. From shooting mid to high 70's I ended up scoring in the 90's. I also broke my 30yr lowest Stableford score with a 22pts.

Took a hit of over £400.

Bought a 2nd hand set of Titliest 712cb's off 'bay, and had a cracking year!!
