I was playing at Lundin Links yesterday where montys former caddie is a member and the word on the street is the big man is one of faldo,s picks. Nick told him a few week,s ago to take some time out, spend it with the family and not to worry about trying to make the team.

Cannot see how Faldo can justify that with others in better form just short of the automatic places.

If it is the case then it may backfire on Poulter who has decided that the lure of the Fedex dollars is more appealing than playing in the Johnnie Walker and trying to get an automatic place. If one pick is used up on Montie and I would put money on the other being used on Clarke then Poulter may have made the wrong decision again.

Smells a bit fishy to me, like GB72 I cant see how Faldo could pick him, Darren Clarke + maybe Ross Fisher would be better picks

I think Monty has 2 options:

1. Announce that he doesn't want to be considered for a wild card due to his current lack of form.

2. Be left out and be eaten up by his obvious dislike for Faldo.

Could you imagine how he would feel if Poulter got the pick and not him ??? I wouldn't like to be near him when THAT call comes.

I can't see Faldo picking Monty. No way.

He has to go with DC, Poults or Casey. Perm any 2 from 3. These are the guys on form, and they will be going up against Azingers 4 picks on form.

He would be mad to pick the big guy. If Monty didn't deliver, the press would have a field day on the guy who chose him.

True, but if one of his picks does not perform then the press will be full of 'why did he not pick Monty, a proven Ryder Cup golfer'

There is an easy answer to that though, Monty's ranking is very poor. If he leaves out inform (and higher ranked)players to pick someone who has no form at all, harder question to answer.

Well he can't pick Monty and Poulter - there is most definitely no love lost there.

Maybe, Monty go take some time out, spend it with the family (and stop trying to turn the clock back?)

Form has nothing to do with it, if you remember a few years ago westwood had lost his game, he went into the ryder cup and was outstanding. Form is temporary class is permanent

Well if it were anything like when Thomas Bjorn spit his dummy out last time, there will be fireworks.

But if The rumour is right that Monty has a pick in the bag already, assuming a good placing at the Johnny Walker, then Faldo def will be after experience & maybe an on course deputy, as who better for Marshalling the field than the Field Marshall himselfaldo is really confident for a good win to allow an on paper week link into the team.

I think the answer at the end of the day is wait & see, as we can speculate till the cows come home. But no-one but Faldo knows what he's going to do. And he's always been a law unto himself.

That is only fair that if one teams top golfer can't compete, then the top man from the other team should step down to level the field.

.......
Dear Mr Faldo,
Please don't pick Monty, there are others far more deserving of a trip to Valhalla.
The big pudding has played in enough RC's and despite gaining a lot of experience so have Messrs Harrington, Garcia, Westwood etc so we have enough experience in the team without carrying a player with no form and fast diminishing physical condition.
Give a new guy a chance, crikey we've won so many lately it'd be better for the event if it was close this time, or even if we lose it'll just make it a better event at Celtic Manor next time.....or better still let's revert to a GB&I team as it was meant to be,
Yours etc
Mr Samuel Ryder (in spirit)

At present it looks like a few rookies will be on the big bird over the Atlantic. I can see Faldo going with experience like Monty and Faldo.

It was touched on that Monty was absent for the last two weeks and it may be due to already being given the nod by Faldo during the Dutch Open!

No chance Monty will get picked, he's taken a couple of weeks off because he knows it.

Clarke and Casey will be the captain's picks. Poulter has blown his chance, unless he wins the the US this weekend (which he won't).

Monty should go as a vice-captain.

Can you imagine the bad feeling in the team room, when Lee Westwood, sergio etc, look over and see Monty, who's been rubbish all year sitting there instead of their pal Darren Clarke/Casey etc.

You don't need Monty for the experience, DC has plenty of that.

Monty is a Ryder Cup legend, but I think he should bow out while that is untarnished.

Cant see Monty getting a pick when Clarke, Casey and Poulter are playing better golf at this point in time.

I would go with Clarke and Casey.

Can you discount Pettersson though? Had a better season than Casey, Poulter, Monty and probably Clarke as well, hes also been under Faldos nose throughout being based in the states, used to the American crowds, courses, players etc.

Not saying I think he will get the nod, just throwing another name into the hat!
