Congrats Doh..

Hope it all goes well.

I was asked if I would consider the Captaincy a few years ago and I had to decline as I wouldn't have been able to give the job enough time. Maybe in a few years...

Do you still get courtesy of the course when you play away??

Congratulations Doh, as you can see ny my name i was a captain of sorts, but no longer, i'm just a mere commoner now

Thanks Imurg

Yes i'm able to play courses free of charge although might not find the time as i will be very busy.

Hope you have a good year. I'd be interested in doing some articles with you over the course of the year for the magazine idea I'm still playing with. How being captain has affected your game, amusing anecdotes, funny/unusual things from committee meetings etc. If you fancy it PM me at some point.

Otherwise just remember to keep hold of your club after you've swung it in that rain and enjoy your year

best of luck, doh.

not being at all familiar with club captains, (I met our previous one around the track a couple of times but haven't seen this years at all) I assume that your 'drive out' is you teeing off first in a comp?

doesn't the captain do this in all comps?

What you have is a "Captains Drive in ceremony at the start of his season which in our case is oct to oct. so you have about two hundred members watching you trying to put one down the first fairway

You also have the honour on the first tee in the comps but only on the first tee and only in your group.

Yes would be glad to help, i intend to keep a record in a diary i will pm you next week and we can exchange details.

Good luck!
Gonna be an expensive year lol!!

Hope the "drive in" goes well for you.
I remember one year at Crowborough we were laying bets on where the new captains drive was going to end up.
I won it.........bunker by the 18th green
hehe

congratulations, I hope you enjoy all the honour and pleasures and less of the frustrations and pains associated with the job .lol.It should be a good day for you as its my birthday.

Im off to look at your ugly cpt now.

Doh,wish you all the best for your year in the chair!!!
Mate of mine was captain years ago and being of the nervous type got pretty stressed out but with support got thro' it!
rely on your friends and family!
Good luck and enjoy.(could be worse, you could be driving off at St.Andrews!!)

Thanks for all your support Guys

The day went really well about 150 people turned up for the drive in and comp very windy rain not to bad.

The day started off with bucks fizz and a full breakfast at 8am everyone has a £1 each bet where people think the captains drive will finish left, right or centre of the fairway and how far.

Standing on the first tee with the wind in your face a soggy fairway and all those people watching is a bit daunting to say the least, with each of them wishing your are going to put the ball just were they have predicted.

Now i have been trying to prepare myself for this for about two weeks by reminding myself every time i stood on any tee with my driver to go through a pre-shot routine.

Well i thought i had it sussed until I got on the tee the secretary announced my name and i saw all those faces looking at me.

Well my mind went completly Blank, and i mean blank.
So It must have been muscle memory that took over because i managed to hit a half decent drive 220 yrds with a little draw which stopped as soon as it landed our first being slightly up hill.

what a great round of applause i got and if i had any would have made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

I got to choose my playing partners for the day so as ladies now have full playing rights although only one has taken up the offer so far my group consisted of Julie the junior Captain and a very good friend who does a lot of work for the club.

We had a good laugh at my first presentation and i got to pay the bar bill haha.
