Foolishly I agreed to play Fish for a few £ today at Staverton Park, location for his next HDID Matchplay event.

This guy is a sombrero wearer of the highest order, counting up his card it totalled 88gross (65net, 6under). During the round he manged 7 pars and 2 birdies, we wont mention the other holes...:o

As for my game, the less said the better.

You have been warned.

Last two meets (Silloth,Preston) ive been his group and ive noticed some very good form in patches and it was only a matter of time :D

I was slow out of the traps with no warm up and we halved the 1st but Rob then won the next 2 holes with gross pars to go 2 up from 3. I then parred the first par 3 and then won the next 2 holes with pars also to go 1 up from 6. Rob then won the 7th with a par on the index 1 but I won the 8th (gross birdie) & 9th to be 2 up on the turn. I had 19 points and was 46 out but now I was ready to turn it on ;)

Like the 1st we shared the spoils on the 10th but then I won the next 3 holes, again 2 of them with gross pars and as such the 14th became a dormy 5  It was halved but the hands were then well and truly shook :D

I then took the following 3 holes with 2 gross pars and 1 birdie and was now standing on the 18th tee with a 3 over gross from the back 9 :o I then blobbed the 18th :( 42 in (23 points) with a blob!

Nett 65 against Robs Nett 76 was enough to take the spoils on the Matchplay, 42 points to win the Stableford and I hit 3 from 4 par 3 greens to win the par bits also, a great day at the office :smirk:

Thank you Rob for a great afternoon, it was just what I needed prior to arranging my HDID Matchplay Knock-out round at Staverton Park, the awesomeness just wasn't a match for the Mizzies today and it reassured me that I know the games in their after some rather average rounds of late ;)

Arghhhhh... Why why why must we reach for the B word whenever a high handicapper has a good round? Would you call a cat 1 player a bandit if he shot 6 under? Tiger must have shot 6 under many times before now, is he a bandit?

I know it shouldn't affect me, but I've had a couple of 20+ pts on the front 9 and someone says "yeah, 20 handicap my a**e". I immediately feel guilty, game falls apart and I barely squeak into buffer. Is a high handicapper not allowed to play well?

I think it might have been a bit of banter between mates. There again .........

The H4H handicap committee will be meeting to discuss what last years winner will be playing off at West Hill.

Well done Robin, keep it going and watch that handicap tumble.

Remember when you head up here you leave that handicap behind........

Cheers Sam, 7 pars and 2 birdies was a PB, that's 50% of the 18 sorted, just got to sort out the other 9 now

The B word wasn't mentioned, although we did stop half way between the 9th and 10th to water and feed the horse....

Know that feeling Ian - although it often happens earlier than that for me - I cant seem to blank it however hard I try!

You never know Rob I might just have managed to have 18 good holes of golf a few times with a card in my hand by then rather than 12 and I can have a slightly less embarrassing number next to my name in the program.;) (Although my failure to even break 100 last weekend would suggest otherwise:o)

There are a couple of others waiting in the wings that you need to have a chat about before the event as well Rich
;)

I played with a guy at Whittington Heath a few years ago on a forum "do". 9 holes in the morning, 18 in the afternoon.
I think he had 21 points with 2 blobs over the morning 9 holes, which looked a bit suspicious to me because for a 24 handicapper he was hitting the ball like God.
Started the afternoon round, and again, after 9 holes, he had 21 points with two blobs.
As we stood on the 10th tee I said to him, "bloody hell, that's 42 points off 18 holes with four blobs. Where did you get your handicap from?"
He scored about 6 points on the back 9.
Hehehehee
:D

I better not get paired up with you then at West Hill or there will be 1 short at the dinner

If you shot 42 points with 4 blobs whilst playing with me, quite right. You wouldn't expect to make it back to the clubhouse intact would you???

Yes I would, it was more a reference to you making the comment on the 10th and his game then falling away, I'd have left you in a bunker with just your heading showing for the Badgers to have a nibble overnight if that was me

Just a bit of "gamesmanship" mate. The guy was a 24 handicapper (yeah right!) and playing like a single figure golfer. I think I also suggested that he got his handicap off the back of a cornflake packet as well. Could have been the top of a soap powder box, but I can't really remember as it was about 4 years ago now.
Guy was a total and utter bandit. I'd do the same again if the situation arose.
I don't object to a bloke having a good round. But it was obvious, (to our two playing partners as well) that the guy was definitely "up for it"
;)
