On the bookies website I use for an each way bet it reads-

" Each way @ 1/4 1-5 "

I'm an occassional gambler only so am not up to speed with how it works. What I want to know is does this mean I will collect if one of my players places 5th or is it just up to 4th place that will pay out?

If your player finishes 2nd to 5th you will be paid out at 1/4 the odds, if he wins you will be paid out full price.

Just to add to this, in golf their are obviously alot of ties. If for example 3 people are tied 3rd then only these 3 plus first and second will be paid for each way terms.

If you player is placed 5th in a tie with 4 people then you will receive a 1/4 of 1/5 of the odds for a place!

Basically just win the thing!!!

Yep sorry should have mentioned the ties business as well

you get full odds on the win.
example. £1 e/w (£2 bet in total) on Luke Donald @ 16/1. £1 on the win @ 16/1 and £1 on him placing in the top 5 at 4/1 (1/4 of 16). So if he wins, you get £17 for him winning and £5 being in the top 5 (you get stake returned). if he is 2nd, 3rd, 4th or sole 5th, you get £5.
