Betterball Matchplay Advice

Me and my golfing partner have match tomorrow in one of the national betterball pairs events. He's been off work all week with a bad back and tells me he's in agony and unlikely to be able to play.

Can I play as a single against the two guys we've been drawn against?

If its betterball I don't see why not, you wouldn't have been able to play on your own if it had been foursomes of course.

yes - 30-3. Best-Ball and Four-Ball Match Play
a. Representation of Side

A side may be represented by one partner for all or any part of a match; all partners need not be present. An absent partner may join a match between holes, but not during play of a hole.

Handicaps are worked out as if he was still there if he's the lowest handicap player - 30-3a/3

Good luck, had the same problem last year in the Volvo, my partner slipped in the shower on the morning of our sheet final, had to play on my own, it's tough playing a pair but who knows.

in the first round of anything - who knows after that - you're probably toast

personally I would have paid for a nurse and wheelchair for my partner just to play the par 3's....and I've had more back surgery than most!
