What was your best win?
Not neccessarily the biggest trophy or the most money/vouchers, but what gave you the most satisfaction?
I should add "in golf"
What was your best win in golf?

Once won a handicap team cup match playing greensomes from 3 down 4 to play. Never seen two good players (they were off 5 and 6) crumble in quite such a spectacular fashion. By the time we were level on the 18th tee and me and my partner had both put one up the middle neither could get the club back and both hit awful drives and we shook hands before we reached the green. Momentum is a funny thing.

10 and 8 on a Saturday morning against a bloke who is a reknowned cheat and total knob. Loved it. Felt sorry for his partner though. Almost.

Winning the club scratch singles at my last club. It was my first 'major' trophy win and I had to beat a lot of good golfers along the way. Saved par at the last from under a bush to win 1 up.

I was over the moon at the time and still regard that win as my breakthrough into believing I could compete with better golfers.

First medal win. Was always told that a higher handicapper could not hold a round together to win a medal so gave me great pleasure when I did (and the 3 shot cut was pretty pleasing as well)

Myself and Steve Kemlo beating the monster hitting Calum and John Findlay last year at Dundonald. Calum, driver 7 iron onto the green in two at the 540 yard 3rd! Bloody incredible hitting! I was short with a decent drive and a 3 wood I hit out my socks!

That was one for the scrapbook.

The day on which I won down at Princes.

Had never played a links course before and the conditions were testing.

Front 9 I scored an apalling 11 points, terrible form.

Gave myself a real pep-talk about keeping it on the fairway and using my shots to my advantage.

Back 9 I scored 23 points for a 34 total which was a great score on the day, to seal victory.

That back 9 is the best golf I have ever experienced and enjoyed. I had a plan on every hole and I played exactly to my strengths to get the points.

There were 3 holes on that back 9 where we were playing against a tour-pro, whom I beat over the 3-holes (he did find the 6ft face of a bunker) we played. He also complimented me on my "top, top wedge play" on 2 hard up and downs that I nailed.

That gave me a great amount of confidence and I kicked on and did the business.

I learned an awful lot that day.

Played James at Gainsborough last Thursday. Was 3 down with about 5 or 6 to play. Thought I was out of it, he was playing proper good golf. I was playing reasonably but just couldn't win the holes. Then I got my head down and started playing better. He was worried. I could tell. He kept farting he was that nervous. Pulled it back to all square at 16. He tried a little "gamesmanship" on 17, a par 3 over water. I wasn't having any of it and stuck my 4 iron to about 6 feet. He countered with a 7 iron to 8 feet and missed the birdie putt. We halved in 3's and went to the last, long par 4 into the wind. The pressure was on. My honour and I had to get a decent one away. Wallop. I did. Straight up the middle. Straight as a dye. He hit a better one, we both missed the green but managed to halve in 5's. So I beat him. And I was chuffed. And there was celebrating in the Lincolnshire hills that night.
God. I sound like Homer

Last week:

I won the clubs Midway cup - 10-18 h'cap group.

Fist time I have shot in the 70's in a medal round. Over the previous weeks I have shot 76 and a few 79's, all in friendlies - but every time there was a comp I struggled to match the play.

However, last week it finaly came together, despite leaving 3 shots out there (easy, easy putts where my brain took a vacation ).

Managed to win by 5 shots, in windy and wet conditions. Biggest achievement on the round was finding the 18th fairway from an elevated tee into the teeth of the wind. Can't remember being so nervous on the tee, very good score on the cards and mindful of letting it all go to waste on the last.

The £32 and H'cap cut an added bonus. :D

2006 Club Championship at Sunbury because I'd been 2nd or 3rd for most of the previous decade. It was a lot easier playing without that monkey on my back.

Winning the IBM Order of Merit last year with a 71 at West Byfleet. Had five birdies in the first 11 holes and then hung on when I started shitting bricks over what I was going to score.

I won a competition in a magazine to play in the BMW PGA Pro-am at Wentworth. Does that count?

Otherwise, level par 72 off 9, a round with 6 birdies, 6 pars and 6 bogeys to win a comp some years ago.

As juniors my mate and I took on two adult members at Wimbledon Common. One was a nice guy but the other was so far up himself and I had that teenage hatred for a person you use to get. We did them 8&7 and I went round in +4 gross and my mate off 11 went round in +5. I think our better ball was something stupid like 61. The decent guy was great and very complimentary. The knob sulked like a prima donna so I went into the bar and gloated for England before he got in!

Won a medal last year with a level par 71....5 birdies, 5 bogies and 8 pars. 3 putted the 18th as well otherwise it would have been an under par round.

Long way off that form at the moment though :(

Winning Captain's Day at my last club for the 2nd time in 3 years. I beat a guy I really didn't like on countback. I also beat the club Champion who had said that the large crystal rose bowl 1st prize was his for the taking....

Or...

Winning a knockout club match against a very stuck up club. Mine was the last game and the match all square. We were level on the 18th tee and both found the fairway and green. Jis putt finished 6 inches from the hole and I drained my 15 footer for the match. Now that was fun...

The very 1st comp i played in was a club swap with our club.....Stableford and dunno if it was pure luck or skill but everything went right for me......I started with a handicp of 21 but got cut 2 shots after that....
Iv only played 14 Competitions over 8 months and iv won twice.....
The other i won was a Medal..... I shot a 64. with my handicap of 19 at the time....7 under the CSS and i was cut to 17 after that.......
I dont know whats the reason but iv slowly been going back towards 18 for the past few months....Maybe its the changing of Irons......But im very competitive and doing my best to get it going the other way again.....Its in me i just cant seem to unleash it yet....... :(

No one single win, but some great memories ;

My first ever singles match as a teenager. Won it 5&4. Can still remember my second shot on the long 15th. Thought I was the mutt's. ( Lost the away return 9&7 to shrink my head back to normality )

Winning my first medal at Park Wood in the mid 90s. After practising over the winter I managed an 81 off the whites ( par 72) off of 17 h/c. Short and straight, didn't hit a bunker all day.

Possibly the best, though ( although we'll have to see how it sit's over time ) was playing with Jammie at Walton Heath, and hammering the Ping guys. Ok it was only 2&1, and Jammie actually won it on the 17th with a real stunner. But having struggled like crazy to find any kind of game since my 'comeback' it was the first signs of me having some sort of swing hidden there somewhere, and being able to compete with proper golfers, on handicap at least. It was the best quality course I've ever played on. And it was representing the Forum - something which mattered more to me than I expected it to.
