Haven't you played The Old Course at St Andrews in your illustrious career? (or doesn't it count)

Personally I haven't and I can't recall any worthy of note that I have played either!

St Andrews, if it counts is probably the only municipal I have played from memory. Have played Silvermere but not sure if that is private or public.

Thorpe Wood and Orton Meadows at Peterborough are really good council owned courses.

I'll second that. Normanby Hall at Scunthorpe is not too bad either, as I remember.
I forgot all about that and its only 20 mins from me! very good value for money and some interesting holes as well.

Lickey Hills Golf Course in South Birmingham. I play quite a fair bit of golf here and it has been described as 'one of the best Municipals in the country'.

It's so good even ex Man United, Aston Villa manager Ron Atkinson plays there quite regularly!

Ignoring the St Andrews Trust courses, which are in a league of their own....

Need 4 really - all pretty much equally high quality/fun.

Braid Hills, Edinburgh
Heaton Park, Manchester
Pans Hanger, Herts
Walton Hall, Warrington

Downshire, Crowthorne and Broome Manor, Sindon definitely a step don.
Silvermere is Private.

As a test of golf, Southampton muni is up there with the very best. Meyrick Park in Bournemouth is another very good course.

Not sure of the actual definition of municipal. Where do courses like Turnberry fit in? Hotel chain owned and run so technically a municipal course (as in anyone can play them)?

My favourite though is Carnoustie.
