Has anyone had a lesson/read an article/seen a video etc that entirely changed your game, for the better?

I'm interested to know as I've had a couple that have been gems for me.

Also if you've had horrendous advice - I was told one to keep my arms locked into my body and i couldn't hit water if I fell out of a boat.

I think the best advice I've ever been given was to let gravity take care of the first two thirds of the downswing and then whip the club through the bottom of the swing. (Difference between effortless power and powerless effort.)

1) Hit the ball better not harder

2) Look at the ball through impact

Care to elaborate please mate?

It sounds the same as what i did a few months ago

get an alignment stick on the range, turn an empty basket upside down and place it behind you to your right. Now place tge alignment stick through he holes of the basket at an angle. On your downswing you have to swing under the stick, if you hit it you are coming over the top.

Cracking tip and it really worked for me. I think there is still an alignment stick halfway down tge range tho!

That's the one. The basket and the stick have to be aligned properly though. Think either Rick Shiels or Peter Finch have done a video on it. I'll upload a picture if I get a chance.

So is the idea to swing back and through under the alignment stick?

no .... and yes .....

in that the stick with the guy is in a position to takeback and swing to impact on the outside of the stick - so a drill position for folks who whip the club back inside too much

the stick with the girl is in the drill position for folks who lift the the club out and aways on the takeback then swing down out and in so the club with this position the takeback is just inside the line of the stick and back to impact just inside of the stick

so you gotta know which 'fault' needs to be addressed as to which position the stick is in

there's another drill that has two sticks that form a gate that the takeback and downswing both travel through but that's a bunch more difficult to get the drift of if there's a bigger 'path' issue (so a 'taller' version of a gate formed with two headcovers/towels on the ground)

always useful to wrap a bag towel on the top end of the stick (or old soft head cover) folks have been known to smash their hands into the top of the stick

but should fix any "over the top" faults and start you hitting the ball right to left.

Unless of course you still swing over the top and swing over the stick

This has helped some folk in the past..........

Don't hit the headcovers

What's really helping me at the moment is Jason's short game challenge. I try to practice but often lack the focus to maintain concentration on every shot. Having little games to play has made it more enjoyable and challenging. It's also given me better focus during those sessions.
