the reason I ask is due to the heat, lack of rain surely golf is a lot harder at present due to dodgy bounces on hard fairways/greens, fatigue in the hot weather etc etc

when for you is the optimal time of year for golfer comfort and course conditions?

April/May is always best at Brough, - just about perfect at the moment.
We need some rain already, but the course is looking fantastic, and is a joy to play.

However, if we dont get rain, it'l brown off in no time by July :(

I feel the hard vs soft course debate coming on :D Personally, I tend to get most of my cuts when the course is a bit softer. I don't like bump and run or relying on bounces to get the ball on the green. There's nothing wrong with it, there's a lot of skill involved, I just prefer hitting a 120yd shot 120yds, not hitting it 90 and hoping I get the right bounce.

I guess the hard v soft course debate is an apt way to describe it :)

Best two months from my point of view are May and September. Hollow tining is a thing of the past/hasn't been started and the courses are usually at their very best.
I hate playing golf when there are no leaves on the trees and the course is covered in worm casts etc.
