Best "resort" stay & play course 2 hours from London?

I'm in charge of booking this year's golf weekend for the lads. Our normal places (Heythrop Park Oxford & Bryn Meadows Wales) are fully booked. Looking for less than £150 a head, 2 rounds, bed breakfast & dinner. Any ideas? Less than 2 hours from London.

Forest of Arden, Belfry, Oxfordshire, East Sussex National, Hanbury Manor should all be feasible options on that remit. Plenty of other options too, worth looking on somewhere like YGT

I had a lesson there last year and to be honest it looked pretty bland and uninspiring but probably suitable for a mixed ability society.

Further up this way 2 hours will get you to Greetham Valley which will normally do you a great deal. Depends whether you want prestige of course or a place suitable for all abilities.

I went to prince's last year about this time. Thought it was good value. Accommodation at the lodge was pretty much brand new, though not as many facilities as a hotel resort like Hanbury.

The links golf was completely different to our standard parkland fare, so was a big reason for the success of the trip. This may not be the case for everyone, but doing something different adds a lot to the break IMHO.

Princes

EDIT : Whoops, didn't read the post above mine before submitting. Only downside with Princes is there is nothing else near the hotel. Sandwich is a nice place but quiet, Ramsgate is the nearest livelier night out, but it's a dump. However, if you're happy just in the bar, Princes is a great option. There are plenty of other courses nearby or en route, you could easily do 18 holes at say, North Foreland, and then 27 holes at Princes the following day.

Dale Hill is another option.

I'd say Celtic Manor is better than the Vale, championship course for me was poor. Plus a bit out of the way.

Great value for money , 24 of us went in March.

I think the current rate is £180 for a night stay with evening meal, breakfast , two rounds and full use of spa
