Today I went down to my local pro shop and tried 4 irons, Ping G15, Ping G20, Ping i20 and TM Rocketbladez
The G15 was the first and the first few swings being a little stiff, were disasterous. Next the Rocketbladez, not a good start and similar to the G15.
Feeling a little bit disappointed I next hit the G25 having warmed up. Being more of a favourable shape I hit every shot perfectly and the feeling from the club face was more than surprising being very soft with plenty of feedback.
Back to the G15, better but not anywhere as nice feeling or as smooth as the G25. Back to the TM, despite my love for the brand I was not impressed as it could not compare with the G25 and it wasn't too dissimilar to the G15.
Next, now that I was nicely warmed up the i20 which for me is possibly the best looking club on the market. Quite simply much better than the G15 and TM for me. It sat perfect, looked perfect and on a decent swing was deceptively easier than I anticipated it would be to use. The surprising thing for me was that not was it very accurate the trajectory for me was higher than the G25.
It wasn't anywhere near as forgiving but it was smooth off the face very accurate and if I went for it on a good shot quite long. In comparison the G25 was softer, smoother and much more forgiving.
On a good day I could swing the i20 and laugh all the way around the course, however I have a nasty feeling that on a bad day with the G25 I would still laugh my way around the course as it took no effort and was equally as accurate.
Now I'm torn
Both clubs are superb so I've agreed to go back on another day to see if the results and my feelings are the same.
Back to the original post I now need to find the best price available. My Pro shop will do 7 irons for £489 and will pricematch any genuine prices online. The best I can find is £449 has anybody seen a cheaper price?
