Time to restock the wine cabinet. Usually, I get mine via mail order from Laithwaites. They used to do pretty good wines at reasonable value. But thinking it is time to change. As a result of trying to play Early bird golf, dont really drink too much on weekends, but I like to enjoy my tipple. I think I gave away most of the wines while visiting friends & family . Dont fancy spending too much, and the range would be £6-£10.

Any suggestions?

looks interesting..

PS: I should clarify.. when I say 'bulk'.. i was talking about a dozen or so bottle rather than consignment

Just look through the listings, go to "buy wine" and then "current auctions", pick say "red" then "shiraz" and look for the auctions that start at £1 for 6 or 12 bottles.

There's something for everyone through this company, I've bought and sold good bottles of Cristal, my favourite bubbly ;)

I sold my cellar contents (350 bottles of mainly claret) through BfW a few years ago. Good place to buy very good quality/value wine from and simple to sell through. More fun watching at listing finish time too as, unlike Ebay, a late bid extends the time.

However, I think the OP is after decent everyday drinking.

If that's the case (ha!) it's hard to beat Majestic imo. Laithwaites, the closest one to me, has some pretty good stuff, but it tends to be a little more expensive. I've never been a great fan of the mixed cases - I'd sooner do my own tasting/selection.

If it's Reds, it's very hard to beat Argentinian Malbec or Chilean Merlot in that price range. Decent Aussie Reds are starting to push that price range.

Whites are much more difficult to suggest. Very much individual preference.

Of course, you could also check out the Supermarkets offerings.

There is a Majestic about 1 mile, so will pop around.

Red: Needs to be smooth, else can be a bit like sandpaper. Had some Malbec a few evenings ago after work. The first bottle was horrible, but then the host got some nice crisp one.. lovely. Unfortuntately too smashed in the evening to remember which one it was. Not a big fan of Aussie red.

White,... Partial to some Kiwi Suvignon Blanc. Oyster Bay does a good SB.

Also agree with Majestic. They are very knowledgeable in there and they have a good selection. Just tell them what you want/like and they will sort you out. PLus they usually have some tasting on so you can try a few in the interests of in depth research ;) I used to use Laithwaites but the stuff they sent was very average so we stopped. Occasionally you'd get a really nice one, but it was always balanced out by some pretty ropey ones.

And if you are a sauv blanc fan they try some from Chile. They are much better value than NZ ones and some are just as good. IMHO of course. I'd also recommend trying a Torrontes, a white wine from Argentina. Majestic used to do a lovely one. Plus they do some really nice French White Burgundy. Which is effectively chardonnay, but without all the over powering oaky stuff that the Aussies do to it.

Majestic is good, ones just opened about half a mile from my house aswell :)

Carmenere from Chile is my personal favourite, Malbec not far behind. Chilean Malbec as good as Argentinian.....

I went on a wine tasting thing with Oz Clarke a bit ago and he was going on about Carmenere, saying how good it is. Something to do with it being a long lost grape that was rediscovered in Chile. I'm not really a fan of reds so it was lost on me, but everyone I know who has tried it says it's very good.

This.

I want to go to France for ever.

France produces some of the greatest wines in the world - though not necessarily greatest value ones.

Unfortunately, it still produces some of the worst as well imo!

There has certainly been progress for 'lesser' wines in recent times though. Oddly, maybe, the Laithwaite name, with the 'Flying Winemaker' concept, has been at the fore-front of this progress.

For variety in that price range, Supermarkets could well be a good source too. Some pretty good, occasionally exceptional, deals available! They too have come a long way in the last few years!

Asda, Morrisons, Tesco.
All three will have deals on certain wines (normally half price) so great value, Tesco also discount another 5% if you buy by the case (6 bottles) HTH's.

Think Majestic is good but for choice and quality it has to be Tesco. Free delivery over £50

Look for the offers. The other week they had 50% off and I yo bought 12 a further 25%. Add Club card points and bargains are to be had

I'm not a fan of French wines other than a good Nuits-Saint-Georges. I'm strictly a Rioja or Shiraz man usually, although at this minute, although a little early, I'm enjoying a nice bottle of Hobgoblin :smirk:

Majestic is a good shout. If you dont want to leave the sofa - the guy that set up (and sold for a tidy profit) Majestic - Esme Johnstone now has a business called "fromvineyardsdirect" - where you can get some really good drinkable wine from all over, at a good price. Another one that I have used is owned by Jamie Goodheart - "BonCoeurFineWines". Both excellent sites, great service.
