Best IPhone GPS App

I use swingxswing. its free to use for getting distances and it uploads to its website for a h/c.

you can pay to upgrade for club distances, wind, elevation and shot tracking (hook, slice etc)

Use the free version of golfshot first then upgrade, they are always sending emails with promos

Hole19 lets you check distances to hazards, and optimal lay up spots, always giving the second shot distance to the green

Golf Pad, nRange, & Freecaddie are also worth a look

Also download the Galvin Green App, it gives you the weather forecast for whichever course you are due to play

I used Golf Pad before i got my Garmin watch. I still use it now and again when im at a new course. Worth a look.

Just downloaded the latest version of Hole 19 and think for free it's really pretty decent. It's been updated since I checked if out last time and seems slicker and a lot easier to use.

As an aside, does anyone know just how accurate the course mapping is? Seems pretty accurate to me, and there's the added advantage that layup and hazard distances are pretty good to have when playing somewhere new - over say my Garmin S1 original watch which just has front - middle - back.

Downside - it's a little fiddly in having to change holes as it doesn't scroll through as you go round, but in all fairness for nowt then you can't expect everything.

The question comes in asking for the best free app, he doesn't want to spend a penny...

And a load of people say golfshot for £20 hahaha

I have hole 19. I like it, its pretty easy to use and I've never had a problem with the mapping. I have a bushnell now but to be honest the distances are pretty accurate on the app and it gives you front middle and back distances which is good. It can be a bit annoying if you have own on your phone to have to keep unlocking your phone though.

Yes, that's one of the drawbacks but my phone has thumbprint recognition so it's only really push and hold the home button.

Thanks for posting how you find it. I'm going to use if for a while and see if using it more makes me a bit nippier with it between shots.

Chap I was with the other day was inputting a lot of his stats at the end of each hole and he wan't unduly slow.
