I follow MyGolfSpy and find they do very in-depth and excellent reviews of clubs throughout the year. They have an extensive testing process using real life players in identical conditions. Their most recent test was done on the category of GI irons, and there was a clear winner across the board. The TaylorMade RSi1's. The clubs they decided to test were:

Taylormade RSi1's
Callaway Xr's
Titleist AP1's
Cobra Fly-Z
Nike Vapor Speed
Srixon Z545
Ping G30
Mizuno JPX 850
Bridgestone J15
Tour Exotics E8

The RSI1's came out on top for Long, Medium and Short irons. Ranked very highly in distance, Shot area, but arguably the most important area when it comes to GI irons, Carry Consistency, where it ranked #1 throughout the iron set. Very interesting and makes me really want to give them a go. I do love my Covert 2.0's, but not seen a club in any review on MyGolfSpy dominate a review so much. Thoughts?

Give the review a full read here:

Its all about personal preference. So many on the market you have to give a few a try and get a good c/f as the shaft is more important, Depends on budget as well, some good deals to be had and TM are usually at higher end. Some of the not so leading brands producing some quality stuff now as well at significantly cheaper prices.

Thanks for sharing OP.

Not convinced. Personally I'd rate AP1 higher across the board but like any poll, it's all subjective

Crossfield reviewed the RSi1 when they came out and essentially said we couldn't see much difference between the RSi1 and AP1; almost inferring the TM was a replica.

either way I'd love either!

"One thing that is worth noting is that this iron is very low launching and low spinning, largely because of the uber-strong lofts (the 4-iron is 20 degrees!). If you tend to hit a high ball, you will likely add a lot of distance by switching to these clubs. If you already hit a low ball, you may actually lose distance in your mid and long irons, and you can forget about sticking greens with them".

I don't know who they had doing their testing, but I have found exactly the opposite with my RS1's.
These clubs are almost exactly the same specification (loftwise) as my previous Cobra S3's.
I am hitting at least one club less on every shot, my ball flight is a lot (lot) higher and I am creating masses of spin. I am "sticking" a lot more greens with them than I ever was with any of my previous clubs.
With my Cobras, the 4 iron hardly ever saw the light of day. In fact, I think I took it out of my bag. I will have no hesitation in pulling my RS1 4 iron out if needs be, and have every confidence with it.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again............. these RS1 clubs are the best clubs I have ever owned.

From what I've seen Mygolfspy seem to be one of the most thorough testers in the business and tend to cut through the marketing hype that most other reviewers get caught up in, so you have to take note of that they say.

I would add that this process is slightly unfair on the manufacturers (Srixon and Mizuno?) that offer a wide selection of shafts for no additional cost.

So their extensive testing process doesn't quite live up to yours. Enlighten me Homer, just what exactly is your testing process??? ;)

That tickled Obama.

I tried a whole load of irons from this year when my mate bought his G30's. It showed me one thing. I saved a massive amount of money getting AP2 710 used. Not one of them apart from the Nike Combo came close to feeling nice when hit. I got mine with S300 shafts on them 4-PW for £199 used. Save money and don't buy brand new irons.
