Going back to Wolverhampton for a couple of weeks and was thinking about which courses to play.

What are peoples views of the best courses in the Wolverhampton area to go and visit?

Beau Desert is already on the list but its a bit far (50 mins) for a daily trek.

Any views ladies and gentlemen?

I understand Fortrose is nice this time of year;)

Over 30+ years I have played nearly all the courses in the West Midlands region and would say that , if you are based in Wolverhampton, the best on offer within a reasonable distance is Beau Desert but if you feel that is a little far then Enville.

Obviously Little Aston is right up there but again you might find it a bit of a step.

The above three are the only quality courses in the area but the green fee is likely to reflect that. Best of the rest in that area are Shifnal and Patshull Park.

Many of the cheaper alternatives are OK but pretty ordinary.

Walmey, moorhall hotel and Maxstoke are all cracking tracks

But if the OP thinks that Beau Desert is a little far from Wolverhampton he is certainly going to find those three a bit of a distance.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned South Staffs, I have enjoyed my visits to there in the past.

Shifnal is looking very good at the moment  If you're still around in 4.5 weeks and fancy a game let us know, alas busy and away for that peroid.

South Staffs , Sandwell Park and Enville would be my choices.

In that neck of the woods I've only played Beau Desert, The Belfry, Forest of Arden and Drayton Manor (nice little course).
Others in the area I've heard of but not played, others may be able to advise on quality:
- Druids Heath,
- Sutton Coldfield (a Dr McKenzie design)
- Copt Heath (host of the McEvoy Trophy)
- South Staffs
- Little Aston

South Staffs.
Oxley Park
Patshull

Others are The Wergs, Perton Park but not worth playing in my opinion

I always enjoyed Wergs but haven't played it for a few years now that my parents have moved back down to Southampton so it may not be as good as it was then. Perton was ok but nothing special.

Worfield was not bad and I played Swindon a couple of times which I found a very demanding lay out!

Enville definitely.
Or Stourbridge is nice and only 20 quid a round.

Played Perton a couple of weeks back. Was in good condition but greens were like concrete, trying to stop the ball on them was a nightmare.
